Shane Sparks, Hip Hop Dance Choreographer

Shane Sparks was a judge and major contributor for the first three seasons of "So You Think You Can Dance" (SYTYCD). He has choreographed group dances in Seasons 3 and 4. This season, he's choreographed a group dance, and two couples dances. He is a hard-hitting, hip hop choreographer who is a favorite of fans. Shane Sparks is now a judge on "America's Best Dance Crew", which doesn't leave him much time for SYTYCD anymore - but we'll take what we can get!

This lens is part of a series including the choreographers from the Fox Reality Show SYTYCD. I'm a huge dance fan, although I've not studied dance in depth, and I've been wondering for the past five seasons, "Where did these great choreographers come from?" So the purpose of these lenses is to provide a short biography of each choreographer, and to remind you of their work on the show.

Shane Sparks Biography

For a more in depth biography, see links below.

Choreographer Shane Sparks was born on June 25, 1974 in Cincinnati, Ohio. The youngest of three kids, he began dancing at age 11, and after finding himself hooked, has since performed in local talent shows and school showcases.

Sparks then pursued a performing career in LA, first joining a dance group there, one that eventually evolved into a singing group. While it was met with small success, he continued appearing as a dancer in several music videos. His career took off when, while trying out at the Millennium Dance Complex in Los Angeles, he was mistaken for a teacher and ended up teaching a small class. Despite not having any choreography experience at the point, he impressed the faculty, so much that he later took over the class, and his classes expanded. From there, he was recruited to choreograph for several special events, including the American Music Awards, as well as the movie You Got Served.

Hi! I'm Missy. I've been a huge fan of SYTYCD from the beginning, so I decided to do a collection of lenses on the choreographers of the show. Enjoy!
