Shanghai, the New Face of China
Shanghai is the biggest city and most important port in China. It is a mixture of old and new; tradition and modernity, a city of contrasts. The city has no less than 20 million inhabitants. Invaded by the Japanese in 1937 and later limited in its development by the communists, it eventually regained its old power and charm. Nowadays, we can say that Shanghai is a sophisticated city with some of the highest and most futuristic buildings in the world. Shanghai represents the modern face of China, the chic side with plenty of hope in a brilliant future.
Shanghai a fashionable travel destination.
Shanghai is a destination for people interested in culture, architecture, fashion and arts. In fact, next year Shanghai is going to be the host city for the 2010 Universal Exposition. Most widely known for its cultural activities, well stocked museums and innumerable art galleries, Shanghai's architecture is also impressive; the city has around 5000 towers from which you can count at least 120 skyscrapers. The Grand Hyatt Hotel is one of the most impressive modern buildings. And for those lovers of engineering marvels, in 2005 Shanghai inaugurated the longest bridge in the world which joins the city to the Yangshan islands and its port, the major one in importance worldwide.Less well known is that Shanghai makes a very romantic setting for a honeymoon. With plenty of green areas to explore hand in hand, romantic river cruises, jazz bands, ancient sites, excellent cuisine and very high quality and competitive hotel prizes.
