Share Your Business With A Gift Giving Attitude
How and Why Should You Share Your Business With A Gift Giving Attitude?
Want to recruit and sponsor more for your business? If you are part of a business where sponsoring and recruiting are part of the marketing plan, you can benefit greatly from adopting a Gift Giving Attitude!
It is my hope that what is shared here will help you build your business to new levels and take some of the fear factor out of talking to others about your opportunity. Think of it as sharing a gift....
Your opportunity is a gift! Believe in what you are doing, adopt a Gift Giving Attitude and GO FOR IT!
Sharing Your Opportunity With Someone Is Like Giving A Gift
Adopt A Gift Giving Attitude When Sharing Your Business
People often tell me I make it look easy when I share about my business and opportunity. Or at least easier than it is to them. A big part of why I think it looks easy is because I do so with a GIFT GIVING ATTITUDE. The gift of opportunity is a gift and today there are people out there looking for a better way - more income, more freedom and people have dreams. Opportunity is a gift! We are taught to share as children - to be giving, generous and helpful towards others. Sharing is an admirable trait. By nature, most human beings want to be viewed a giving person.
But when sharing is in the context of sharing a business opportunity often times the sharer (you) freeze up. All of a sudden sharing becomes not so human nature sometimes. We prejudge people which actually isn't fair. If we are offering something of value, we are giving a gift.
We fear coming off as pushy. We worry our friends won't talk to us anymore. We have a lot of notions about what the other person will think. Fearstops us from sharing our business opportunity sometimes. It shouldn't!
Most times we really don't know what another is thinking. We might think we do. But to be successful in sharing your business some of the best advice I can give you is: Don'tt hink you know what another person is thinking because you don't! Really!
Until we walk a mile in their shoes we don't know where they are at or have been or where their thoughts, cares, dreams or worries may be at the given moment the opportunity is presented.
Don't let fear cripple you.... Instead
USE A GIFT GIVING ATTITUDE WHEN SHARING YOUR OPPORTUNITY!
You Are Sharing The Gift Of Opportunity
Don't Prejudge Other People's Needs, Ambitions and Dreams

When you give a gift - on a holiday or occasion - you do so freely because you want to with no expectations right?
Try that mindset on for size when sharing your business and see what it does for you. When you share with that attitude and no expectations, you are being a cheerful giver. It may come back to you in ways you never dreamed possible because you had no expectations of those you shared it with. Sharing from that perspective also lessens your disappointments as you share to find distributors who want to join your team.
Sharing your opportunity is giving a gift. You share the possibility of what can be to another. You are sharing an opportunity that could change their life, family and finances. Put your expectations aside and don't prejudge or presume to know what they think.
When you give a material gift to someone you don't know what they are going to do with it. Same is true with an opportunity. I group those recipients into 4 categories and it is true of both:
EXCITED RECIPIENT
The excited recipient gasps when they receive their gift because it is exactly what they wanted. From the moment it is given they get excited and value it.
LUKEWARM RECIPIENT
The lukewarm recipient is one who accepts the gift graciously but aren't as excited. They may not do anything with your gift. It's not what they are looking for but they are conscious of hurting your feelings so accept it just the same.
RECIPIENT THAT GIVES THE GIFT AWAY TO SOMEONE ELSE
These are the people that accept a gift so as not to be rude and possibly give that very gift you gave them to someone else someday. (Yes people really do that!)
RECIPIENT THAT SAVES THE GIFT
Some put the gift on the shelf in the closet. It might sit there for months or years until they rediscover it. Maybe then find a reason to use it.
NOW THINK ABOUT WHEN YOU SHARE YOUR OPPORTUNITY....
Some embrace it immediately. Those are wonderful sponsoring moments. When someone you share with gets excited from the onset it sure makes it easy and fun doesn't it?
Everyone doesn't do that. If they did our business would be a lot easier and this wouldn't even be a topic to write about.
A Gift Giving Attitude makes talking to people easier and gets your feelings hurt a whole lot less. It becomes less selfish. Giving a material gift isn't a selfish act is it? Neither is sharing what could be a life changing opportunity for someone. So why does it scare us so?
Some will accept it graciously and not do anything. You can't let that discourage you. You can't question why they didn't get excited. You just have to look at it that it's not right for them at least now. You still should offer it.
Especially to those you know because years later they might actually say to you "I would have liked to know more about what you were doing but you never told me". A few of those "Aha" moments have happened a couple of times in my years in the business.
So revamp your attitude. Remember you are sharing a gift (opportunity). Some recipients fall in the second category of accepting it but do nothing with it. Use reverse psychology even and go into it expecting that. Sometimes I tell those I know that they might not be interested in doing the business with me however I want them to know what I'm doing just in case they are. I tell them I would hate to have not offered it to them just in case it might be for them.
The third category you share your opportunity with can be frustrating but also interesting. They are the ones who accept the gift and someday give it away to others. I call those the Re-Gifters.
It's different from when you give someone a material gift. If they give the gift you gave them to someone else it can be insulting. But you will like those people when sharing the gift of opportunity! In that case, I like Re-Gifters because those are referrals for your business and they are a compliment.
When you share your opportunity, they aren't interested. Still be cordial, thank them for their time and leave a lasting positive impression. Because those recipients may be one of those Re-Gifters who wait until later and give your gift away. Someday they might be in conversation with someone and refer someone to you who is interested in the gift (opportunity).
So that third category of Re-Gifters are your future referral base. They may share it with the next dynamite distributor on your team!
Then there's the ones who take the gift and put it on the shelf. When it comes to giving the gift of opportunity they can be frustrating and hard to understand. You think they should be excited, but they don't take action.
I look at it this way: I have members of my family who have so much that giving them a material gift is difficult. They have everything they want and the means to purchase it for themselves. They make gift giving difficult. Often times the gifts wind up on a shelf or not put to a use.
When you are offering your opportunity you come across those people too. People who have so much going on that they don't have time to take the gift and appreciate it. So it goes on the shelf (in this case the mental shelf). Some never do anything with it. Some let it sit for days, months, years until maybe they rediscover it. But be sure to share it because they might take it down off that shelf someday and appreciate it for the gift it is! You have planted a seed in their mind.
What about the ones who start in the first category, get excited but then wind up in the last category where it winds up on the shelf? The excitement fizzles. It may be because their plate is full. It may be because they are not ready. The excited ones that fizzle out are the ones that can really set us back. It's in those cases we must remind ourselves that our business is not about us, but THEM.
Don't take those things to heart and make disappointment be a reason for you to stop sharing your business. For some it becomes a reason to quit. I can not tell you how many times I've talked to people who belonged to someone else in the beginning. Someone else had already planted the seed and gave the gift to them. But because they put it on the shelf and their timing wasn't right they waited.
Unfortunately they waited long enough that the one who gave them the gift left the business before their timing kicked in...
It's always a great moment when I add to my team. But those times are bittersweet because I'm sad for the person who originally shared it. Somewhere along the line the bumps of being in business made them quit. The recipient of their gift really did want it. It was just timing! So it sat on the shelf until they were ready to take it out and use it.
I hope this helps you to be better sharers of your opportunity from a Gift Giving perspective. Remember you don't determine what the recipient does. Just give it!
