Sharp Aquos LC42D85U HDTV Review
If you are looking for a lightweight HD television with a clear picture, at a lower price than the comparable Sony and Samsung, consider the Sharp Aquos LC42D8555U.
The Sharp Aquos LCD television is a newer model that was released in December 2008 and it comes with more features than the earlier models. The D85U Aquos LCD HDTV series has a great picture and features that make it comparable to the more expensive Samsung and Sony televisions. The resolution is 1080p full HD. It has QAM, ATSC, and NTSC tuners built in. The dynamic contrast ratio is a 10,000:1, which is great for a 42 inch HDTV. The response time is a fast 4ms, which helps the picture be smooth. The viewing angle is 176 degrees wide, so you'll be able to enjoy watching your shows from almost anywhere in your room.
There are plenty of connections if you want to hook up an XBOX 360 or other console or if you want to hook up an exterior sound system (which isn't necessary for normal viewing but preferable if you like to listen at loud levels). It has 5 HDMI inputs and 2 HD 1080p component video inputs. Most of these are on the back, so if you have more than one hookup you won't want to wall mount this TV. It includes a table stand for easy set up, but you can remove this if you are planning on wall mounting.
The Sharp Aquos 42 inch HDTV comes in a sleek piano black finish. The speakers are bottom-recessed.

Pros and Cons
Read on to discover the strengths and weakness of this television.
Pros:
Beautiful picture
The picture quality of the Sharp Aquos LC42D85U is crisp and with deep blacks and a high contrast.
120 Hz
The 120 Hz refresh rate guarantees that fast action scenes are smooth.
Plenty of inputs
Two HD 1080p component video inputs and five HDMI inputs should be enough to hook up all the extras, such as a blu-ray player or video game console.
Lightweight
The system is lightweight at 51 pounds so you should have no trouble setting it up.
Cons:
Only 1 of the inputs is on the side
If you don't hook a lot up to your TV, or if you are planning on having it on a stand, this isn't a con. But if you are wall mounting this and you switch out your hookups frequently, this can be a pain.
Sound at Higher volumes
Sitting near the TV and keep the volume set from low to moderate levels? No problem. But if you like to blast your audio (say, past 30) and you don't have a separate sound system, you might want to look elsewhere.
Clunky, but adequate, remote
The remote is a bit clunky, but it works. I prefer using a universal remote.
