All about Sherry Holder Hunt

I am originally from Henderson, Tennessee, a wonderful place to grow up, small town with friendly people. (Eddy Arnold's home town.) After graduation, I moved a few minutes away and I currently live in Jackson, Tennessee, a bit bigger, but still filled with friendly people.

I attended Jackson State Community College where I received an Associate of Applied Science degree.(Computer Programming)
A few years later, I attended McCollum & Ross University of Beauty Culture. I am a licensed cosmetologist and an aesthetician in the state of Tennessee.

My husband, Steve, is a licensed electrical and mechanical contractor. We have a Controls business where I am the office manager. We install energy management systems in commercial and industrial buildings. I spend most of my time doing accounting, proposals, etc. It is my responsiblity to get all of the paper work completed.

I have one son, Colton. He keeps me hopping. Guitar, rock band, piano and voice are a few of his interests. Thankfully, he is a good student. Colton is my greatest blessing and my pride and joy. I'll tell you a little more about Colton later.

Aside from my real job, I am an artist. My paintings are available as Fine Art prints at Imagekind and some of my poetry has been published. You can see my painitings on my website, too.

I also help with Awanas at our church, 3rd and 4th graders and I have Mission Friends with 3 to 6 year olds. They are always teaching me something. Children make life worth living. The children in my life are what has motivated me to design Nursery Rhyme illustrations and Bible Story illustrations.

I have always loved to draw. Give me a piece of paper and a pencil and I'll be doodling in no time. When I entered a 4-H poster contest and placed in the fourth grade my interest in art grew. I began painting as a young adult and I prefer watercolors and acrylics. They dry fast and I'm kind of impatient. I like to see the results quickly. You can go to my website Brushstrokes, Prints, and Posters and see most of my paintings that are available as Fine Art Prints and a few of my poems. I currently have eleven galleries at Imagekind.

Throughout this lens, you will find some of my paintings and some short YouTube videos of different artists painting. I love the self-portrait that the elephant does. The barbecue sauce artist is quite different and very talented. Another favorite is the sidewalk art videos, they are amazing. I hope you'll take the time to watch them they are really impressive.

I have met many amazing artists online, we have a lot of fun together. I travel with Mike Huggs, visit his site...

Worn many hats...

Different experiences in working.

I have worn many hats during my working career. During high school, I sold vitamins, or maybe I should say, I helped my parents sell vitamins. My first paycheck came from a job as a waitress. My second job, a car-hop for Sonic. From the restaurants, I moved to sales, sales clerk that is. I worked in department stores selling cosmetics, candy, greeting cards, jewelry (I also engraved jewelry), lingerie, accessories, and men's fragrances. I worked for a short time as a free-lance make-up artist, mainly for Elizabeth Arden cosmetics. From cosmetics I went into business for myself as a hairstylist and make-up artist, which I loved and stayed with until tendinitis set in and it was time for another career change. My current job is Office Manager for our energy management/controls business.

A little about my encouraging family...

My husband is a licensed electrical contractor and a licensed mechanical contractor. We started a business specializing in energy management controls and I am his Office Manager. We have been married 15 wonderful years.

That same year we started our business, our son was born. So my work-life is filled with paper work and a computer. When I have any spare time, I paint and write poetry, I am an artist and a poet at heart.

If I am going to tell you about me, I must tell you about my biggest accomplishment. At the top of the list, the most important would have to be our son. He is my "son-shine", and he does shine. We believe he is very talented, he sings, he plays lead guitar, he plays the piano and he is intellectually gifted and an Honor Roll student. He has received several academic awards and recognitions. Currently, he is in a rock band and he loves it. The first band he was in was called The Shamrocks, the second was The RIP Chordz, then Fifteen Minutes of Fame, and now Neverending Noise. Colton plays lead guitar and he sings. During one performance, he sang Land of Confusion, a rock song written by the band Genesis for their 1986 album Invisible Touch. I find it amazing that the kids his age love the music I grew up listening to. He also loves to play all of those games kids his age love, Wii, Playstation3, Runescape etc... Colton is a young budding artist. You will find some of his work below. Needless to say he keeps me busy.

I am very blessed to have a wonderful family and good friends. They are all very supportive and have encouraged me. Without that encouragement, my paintings would most likely have remained on my walls only and no one would ever have read any of my poetry. My husband, son, and parents probably get tired of hearing about one of my projects, but they never let on, they just keep listening and I keep writing and painting.

Some other things that I love...

I love anything to do with art and music. I enjoy arts and crafts. I'm a pretty good cook, which I like to do. I have some great recipes and some that have been in our family for generations. I love to read. I enjoy growing plants and a few veggies. Our home is full of pets, we have cats, a dog, fish, and hermit crabs. Where we live (inside the city limits) you would not expect to see a lot of wildlife, but we have seen wild turkeys, deer, possum, raccoons, foxes, and rabbits in our yard. We feed the deer, squirrels and a lot of different types of birds. Humming birds, cardinals, blue jays, mocking birds, finches, wood-peckers and robins.

The newest addition to things I enjoy is Squidoo. I have truly enjoyed this experience and meeting so many interesting people. The volume of information here is astounding and the people are friendly and helpful. Thank you.
