Sound the Trumpet

If you are Bible literate, you can probably name several placese where "trumpets" are used.  You probably have heard of the Joshua using the trumpet to make the walls of Jericho fall.  Or perhaps the sound of the trumpets when God revealed himself on Mount Sinai. 

What you may not know is that the "trumpet" that the Bible is talking about is an instrument made of the horn of an animal.  In the original Hebrew it is called a Shofar.

The same Shofar is still used today by Jewish people as a part of the celebration of Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur.  Lately many Christians and other Bible believers have started to incorporate it into their worship as well.

The Shofar in the Bible

The following is a partial list of (over 80) places where the Shofar is mentioned in the Bible. Depending on the translation you are using, the Shofar may be referred to as horn or trumpet. In the Hebrew original it is always Shofar.
