What Is Shoulder Impingement Syndrome And How To Recover From It Completely?
I'm making this page about Shoulder Impingement Syndrome because I've suffered the frustration of symptoms for over ten years and have recently finally taken the time to learn more about Shoulder Impingement Syndrome and how to improve my shoulder until its back at 100%. I'm sure there's so many people who could use this information and would be great to get any feedback from others.
Impingement Syndrome, shoulder, is the symptoms caused by the compression of the supraspinatus tendon (within the rotator cuff of the shoulder) and/or bursa (lubricating sac). This happens between the humerus (upper arm bone, near bicep) and the acromion (forms the top of the shoulder and joined to the shoulder blade). The bursas purpose is to prevent friction on the tendons in the rotator cuff from the acromion.
So from what i understand, to put it all in the most basic english i can - Shoulder impingement syndrome is what happens when there isn't enough space within your shoulder joint and as you move your arm up, the muscles, tendons, and "lubricating sac thingy" are pinched between bones causing "shoulder impingement". This normally doesn't occur if the joint is functioning normally and enough space in the shoulder means all movement is smooth and a joy to experience.

The problem occurs when overuse and repetitive movements of the arm elevated cause inflammation or damage to muscles, tendons, etc. this leads to the shoulder construction to be a little out of place from what is perfect.
As the movements continue, and possibly posture and slumping of the shoulder continue, this causes the joint to become crowded which leads to pressure on muscles and tendons and impingement syndrome. These muscles and tendons can handle some pressure, but if it is prolonged and repeated, leads to inflammation and can cause rotator cuff tears and further damage.

How To Fix Shoulder Impingement Syndrome
Treatment
Acromioplasty surgery can be an option for shoulder impingement syndrome. Surgery can also be expensive and painful, requiring hours of rehabilitation to get your shoulder back to its natural strength. The most common treatment for impingement syndrome is physical therapy. This can be through a Physiotherapist or by exercises, strength building, and stretching of specific muscles and tendons.

Symptoms of Shoulder Impingement Syndrome.
Symptoms of shoulder impingement syndrome include pain and weakness in the front of the shoulder and can create loss of motion around the shoulder joint. Sufferers often have pain at night from sleeping or lying on the affected shoulder. Impingement syndrome also causes pain when lifting and rotating the arm. Many people feel a sharp pain when reaching into their back pocket. (maybe it is more common in fathers who are continually asked for money by their kids). I have also found it is obvious when elevating my arm, as if pointing from in front of you to your right, while giving the thumbs down.

- Good morning; I am from an engineering background, so human anatomy has always fascinated me. Shoulder malfunctions are so common that I occasionally follow internet comments - why are so many therapists and physicians intent on blaming the rotator cuff ? Why do they overlook the scapula - do they really understand shoulder function ?

- Was involved in an automobile accident and am now suffering from this and it sux! I can no longer do normal things in life without pain. PT never worked and cronic pain is terrible. Good greif..I feel bad for anyone who has this...especially my right shoulder and Im right handed.
