When To Use Silent Ringtone Options

Mobile phone users are often viewed by non-mobile phone users and even some of their own kind as rude, inconsiderate and downright disruptive. If avoiding these monikers is desired, the silent ringtone is a must.

The silent ringtone is nothing more than the option on a phone that turns it to vibrate. This means incoming calls will be felt rather than heard. The silent ringtone isn't really a ringtone at all. This particular "ringtone" option, however, is invaluable for staying in touch when it's really necessary without disrupting other people. Turning a phone onto the silent ringtone option is almost always suggested under these circumstances:

- In business meetings. There is nothing more embarrassing than getting a loud incoming call in the middle of a business meeting. Turn the phone to the silent ringtone option and the problem will be solved.

- During movies. This is one of the worst locations for a cell phone ring to go off. The movie theaters even make a point of requesting that patrons turn their phones off. Using silent ringtones here will do the trick and still enable sitters, for example, to call if it's really necessary.

- At meals. No one likes to be interrupted while their eating. Nothing can distress an entire restaurant more than a cell phone going off. Save the stares for someone else and use silent ringtones in public eateries and even during quiet family meals.

- On dates. When a date is under way, an incoming call from a friend or family member can be a real kill joy. Use silent ringtones here to avoid any hurt feelings. If the call is really important, the date will understand.

- In class. With threats of school violence always on parents' minds, more and more cell phones are being brought into classrooms. Incoming text messages and calls can get students into trouble, however. Turn the phone to the silent option to save face and a trip to the principal's office.

Even in the most important of business meetings, meals or even dates, some incoming calls cannot be ignored. The silent ringtone option enables a cell phone user to see who the call is from, if caller ID is present, but stops the noise from disrupting the room. Should a call be one that can't be missed, politely excuse oneself from the conference table, dinner table or room. The only thing more annoying than a loud incoming call at an inappropriate time is a cell phone user that takes the call and doesn't excuse oneself from general earshot.
