OFF PAGE SEO
Off page, seo is also just as important. Developing a good linking strategy to market your website will ensure that the search engines find your website. It can also be a good source of traffic by itself
Some places for setting up a good back linking strategy are:
* Blog networks
* Article marketing
* Social media sites
* Web directories
* Press releases
* Forums
These can give you many links to your site, as well as generating highly targeted traffic on their own. By learning how to use the social aspects of websites, and building trust with other people in the niche, you can build a lot of traffic and sales to your site. Check out my back linking strategy to learn more about setting up your off page SEO today.
In the following pages, you can learn how to set up your site and market it with a good SEO strategy. If you put in the time to do it, you can get a high ranking in the search engines. It will take some time for all the links you put out there to be indexed. There are also some sites, which set up all links as no follow links. However, with the traffic these sites send you, even the no follow sites will help you get more traffic.
Search Engine Optimization Strategies
So many people are in such a hurry to make money now; they do not take the time to learn basic search engine optimization techniques. So many businesses fail simply because of this. Even if you are only planning to advertise through ppc, learning to improve SEO is important for you. SEO is actually a factor in Google's Adwords quality score. This can greatly affect how much you are paying for your advertising.
There are two main types of SEO, on-page and off-page. I will be going over strategies to improve search engine optimization for both types.
Improve SEO on your web page
There are many parts to On-page SEO. All search engine optimization strategies must start with a good keyword or phrase. People will be finding your page through this keyword, so make sure it is relevant to your topic. Finding keywords that are targeted to problems is a great way to start. I usually find forums on the niche I am researching and find keywords that way. I start by making a list of frequently asked questions or repetitive themes I see within the posts. I usually do this for 2 or 3 different forums and compare the lists from different ones. By now, I have the topics for my articles and the keywords to start my keyword research.
Next, I use a keyword tool such as Google Keyword tool, or Traffic Travis keyword tool to compile a list of keywords to use for my site. Once I have the list I check with the Google keyword tool to see what the search volumes are. I usually find a mid range search volume keyword that seems to be targeted to my article subject. Focus on one or two keyword phrases to be optimizing your site. Do not make it look like it was "keyword stuffed" to rank for many search terms. This will get you slapped by Google and they will rank you low or not index you at all.
Now as you start your article make sure your Keyword is in the page title. Next, as you begin writing your article make sure the keyword is within the first 50 words on the page, and at least 1% of the total text. Therefore, for a 500-word article, your keyword/phrase should appear 5 times. As you read through the article, also make sure it reads naturally. Another great way I make sure to add my keywords into my articles is by using them in my hyperlinks to an affiliate product related to the topic at hand.
Improving SEO
Title tags
Title tags are the tags that show in the top of your web browser to tell search traffic the topic of your page. This is not only a great way to improve you ranking position, but it also helps people to see what your page is about as well.
This is what will show up in the title when search engines list your site. If the keywords they type in are the keywords in the title of the page that comes up, people are more likely to check it out and see if you have what they are looking for on your page.
Meta Description
Meta description is also an important aspect of improving your search engine rankings. This will make your site look more professional and relevant in a search. You should write a short description of what the page is about, making sure your keywords are used at least once. This is what people will see when determining a site to visit within their search. If you do not put in a Meta description, Google will just display random text from your page.
You should make this description a mini sales description for your page. You only have about 160 characters to get people to click your link and go to your page. You want to make this highly targeted and compelling to the traffic you want to visit your site. The more relevant it is to your topic, the more likely you will be to get people to read your article.
Meta Keywords
Next, you should enter your Meta keywords. This is your keyword phrase and one or two variations, so the search engines can determine in what search your site will be relevant. Make sure you do not stuff many keywords. This is a bad sign for the search engines. Make sure you only target one or two keywords per article.
Permalinks
You will also want to make sure the URL file name has your keyword in it. Most programs will automatically use your title as the file name. However, if you have a long title, you can shorten it. Just make sure you leave your keywords. This helps the relevancy with the search engines, but will also help with people clicking into your site. If the URL they see contains the term they just searched for, they will be more likely to click on the link and read your page.
Internal Linking
The next part of on page SEO is internal linking. How many sites have you seen with links to their own pages that say "Click Here"? If you are linking to another page, use that pages keyword phrase in the link text. If you are linking through that term, it will make it look more relevant to the page for the search engines as well as to traffic on your site.
Building the SEO on your site does not cary the weight with the search engines it used to. So many people took advantage of keyword stuffing and writing Meta tags to fool the search engines, they discount on page SEO by itself. However, when combined with a good linking and off page SEO strategy, it can help improve search engine position rankings ahead of the competition very quickly.
Back linking strategy
I thought I would share with you the linking strategy I have used to build traffic to my site. It is a combination of several different strategies. It works really well and can take a lot of the guesswork out of how to get traffic to your site.
Start by writing unique articles for each page on your website. Some people just rewrite the articles on their page. This may work for some people. However, I find a unique article will work better in the end. Make each article at least 400 words long. Use the keywords you have used for your website, so you can target those in your articles as well. You can also use relevant keywords that are not in your web pages to give you a chance for even more relevant traffic that you are not already targeting.
I start with ArticleMarketingAutomation. It costs a little money, but it pays for itself very quickly. They have a blog network set up with an article spinner. It spins out a fresh version of your article every time it posts to a blog in the network. The more care to take in writing the spun articles, the better chance you will have of getting your articles posted to the blogs.
This system allows you to put up to three backlinks in each article. I usually use this to link to three different pages on my website. If you write your articles well, you should be able to do this without a problem. Remember, when the search engines spider a page, you only get credit for one link per page, so if you point them all to the same page you are hurting yourself. You can also get spun versions of your articles from your account to post for each of the other linking methods listed below.
After spinning an article, and publishing it to the blog network, I start submitting spun versions of my articles to the article directories. They each get a unique article, which will increase your chances of them being posted. Most article directories only allow linking in your bio box, so I link to the most targeted page on my site for that article. Below you will find a list of the most popular article directories to use. These are all highly respected by the search engines and your articles stand a chance of ranking if you have written them well. I have had several articles rank on page 1 within 24 hrs of being posted. This will generate more traffic to your site through your link in your bio box.
Article directories:
http://ezinearticles.com
goarticles.com
articlecity.com
searchwarp.com
articlebase.com
isnare.com ---fee involved
selfgrowth.com
buzzle.com
ideamarketers.com
articlealley.com
Submit an article on each page to each of these directories. Each directory has requirements for what you can and cannot post. Make sure you understand them so you can write your content to comply with their requirements.
Article directories are great sources of backlinks. If your articles are full of good content they may even be picked up and distributed by other people in email lists, and as content for their own sites. One of the requirements directories have to do this is they must include your bio box, so you will get even more links to your site this way.
Back linking with Web2.0 sites
What is Web2.0?
Web2.0 is a phrase started a couple of years ago meaning all the social media sites. This can include social networks like MySpace and Facebook. However, they frown upon commercializing on their sites, so you have to be careful with them. This also means blogs such as blogger.com, and social web sites such as Squidoo.com and Hubpages.com.
When you use these social sites, do not just set up your pages and leave them. This will give you back links. However, there is so much traffic on these sites; you would be hurting yourself not to spend at least a little time networking with other people. Go to other peoples pages and leave comments. You can set up these comments to link back to your page and get you higher traffic as well as ranking within the social sites. Even If you only spend a couple of hours doing this every week, you will get a lot more benefit from it than you would from just setting it and forgetting it. You can also hire someone else to do the networking for you. This way it is done, and you do not have to spend your valuable time on it.
Set up a separate account for each site. If you choose to sell your site, these accounts can be given to whomever you sell the site to. If you have all your sites on one account, you cannot do this.
Web2.0 sites:
hubpages.com
squidoo.com
tumblr.com
blogger.com
xanga.com
yahoo360.com
zimbio.com
deedbite.com
Twitter.com--- this is to get spiders to your new sites.
ping.in.com -- ping all the new content.
After putting your articles on each of these sites, link the web2.0 sites with the rss feeds. You can make a spider web like net that points to the pages on your site. You can also mix up the rss feeds to different pages so that each net is targeting multiple pages on your site, rather than everything pointing at one page. Some web 2.0 sites do not like you having more than one or two links pointing at the same web page, so if you mix it up you can get some variety.
I like to use Article Marketing Automation so that each page you get will have unique content. It will not be slapped by duplicate content penalties.
The first time you do this will take a little time, due to registering for each site. However after you have all your accounts set up, you can quickly set up these pages. I find that when I have everything set up I can get an entire page done in about 2 days. Then I can go on to another page.
Once this is done for all the pages on my website, write new articles targeted to your pages and repeat the process. Depending on how competitive the niche and keywords you are targeting are, you can usually get enough backlinks by following this through two times to get on page one of the search engines.
Usually I will let everything set for about a week. Go check and work on other sites, or work on research for a new project. This gives the search engines time to spider and index all your links. They will not all be indexed in this time, but you will begin to see some progress in your rankings. Then go back and focus on the pages that are not ranking as well as you would like.
If you have a page already ranking in the top ten, leave it alone for now and focus on the pages that are not doing as well. You will also want to focus on the money pages. These are the pages as your product reviews, which you believe, will be the ones to make you the most sales. This will give you a better chance at ranking well on those pages.
Back linking with Web2.0 sites can be a great way to build traffic to your site. Not only will it help your search engine rankings, but they can also be a great source of traffic themselves. Take this strategy, put it together with what you already know, and develop your own way of building links that works for you. In a short amount of time you will find your rankings increase and the amount of traffic you have will skyrocket.

Press releases
Press releases can be a great source of traffic to your site. You should understand when and how to use press releases as a way to build traffic. If you know of a new product being released, you can write a press release to let people within your market to know about it. You can also use a press release if you have a unique experience on a certain topic. This will let people know about what happened to you and get targeted traffic to your site.
When writing a press release, you cannot make it a sales pitch. It needs to be compelling to readers, but also needs to be objective. It should be written as a third person viewpoint. A good way to get a press release is to have someone you know write it. This will make it come out in another viewpoint, and can be written in a way that is objective to the reader.
Web Directories
Web Directories can be a great source of traffic. They are large data bases of sites categorized into relevant topics. People go to these directories to search for information they want. There are some concerns when submitting to web directories. Some will want to charge a fee. Never pay for submissions. There are so many ways to get links it just is not worth the price to be listed. In addition, some web directories will want you to back link to them. This is a bad idea. You do not want links going to these directories. If they develop a bad reputation later, you could get penalized for linking to this site.
Some Good Web Directories to submit to are:
* Dmoz.org
* Directory.tm4b.com
* Zeal.com
* Stpt.com
* Searchsight.com
* Gotowebguide.com
* Directorystation.com
You can also search for directories. There are hundreds of directories to choose from. Most of the good directories will not accept just any one who submits. You will have to go through manual inspection of your site. They will want to ensure the sites they are listing are high quality sites with good content.
Be careful when selecting directories and you should get some descent backlinks to your site.
Forums
Forums are a great tool for anyone building a website. You can do market research, get yourself known in the niche, and get leads of highly targeted traffic to your site. There are some things to be aware of when using forums. You want to make sure you are posting high quality content to the forums. Spend some time getting to know the regulars. Make posts and let the people get to know you a little. Usually when I get to around 100 posts in a forum, and the people start to see me as being knowledgeable, I will add a link to my site in my signature file. Most forums with rules against advertising will allow this as long as your posts continue to be high quality. Do not just spam posts to get your link out. This can get you banned from the forums, and can loose the trust of the people in your market.
If you use these strategies wisely, you can build relevant traffic to your website. You will see an increase in your rankings and people will begin to trust your site. Using search engine optimization strategies will help you build your business and get targeted traffic to your website.
