I was at a bridal shower a few weeks ago when something rather strange happened. To properly explain what surprised me, I must brief you on typical bridal shower etiquette. For those who don't frequent many bridal showers, most are female only events. As I'm at the age where my friends are getting married, I've been to around five showers in the past two years and all of them have featured only female friends, co-workers and families. In fact most bridal shower invitations will mention to bring a female companion if you wish to bring someone (some though will not give you that option which means only bring yourself and, of course, a gift).

What made this last bridal shower so interesting was that there were men in attendance. Now, let me just say this didn't really bother me. I'm sure there are some "purists" who would faint at the idea of a man being in attendance, but to me, eh, maybe I don't care enough to freak out. While it didn't bother me, I have to say it did make a difference. Maybe I'm just used to a bridal shower being a female only affair. Certain things occur when it's only women in the room (mind out of the gutter, boys) and having men at the event changed the whole dynamics of the shower. It felt more like a friend get together then a bridal shower which, honestly, had its pluses and minuses. I did find myself at some point feeling kind of weird that I didn't have a date there.

This got me to thinking, are there rules that a bridal shower has to be only female? Men don't really have a shower for the groom, so isn't it fair that they are involved in the bridal shower? Frankly, I don't think guys want to be involved in the bridal showers. Sorry ladies, but the men that I saw at the bridal shower looked incredibly uncomfortable. They had a look of "wait, what am I doing here?". I'm sure they got dragged and once one guy was invited every other female followed.

And why would a guy want to be there, anyways? It's girly stuff. Not that a man has to be all "football-beer-construction", but I'm sure there are other things they want to do with their Sunday afternoon. Maybe I'm just old fashioned but leave the bridal showers to the gals. Everyone involved will be happier.

Because I'm not a member of the wedding favor lobby I will tell you the honest truth: most people probably wouldn't. Unless they are chocolate or cookies-which will be promptly eaten and enjoyed- most wedding favors are either thrown away or stuffed into random draws where they will sit untouched for years.
Alright, sorry, maybe I was a bit too harsh. I'm not trying to say that you shouldn't give out small favors at your upcoming wedding; I'm just saying to be smart about. Don't feel like you have to spend a lot of money on them. The truth is, for most people (except close family and friends) even the most expensive of wedding favors find their way into the trash within the first week. The key is to find something that is cute, small, and something that you know you would want to keep if you were attending the wedding.
Hand's down the best bet when it comes to providing wedding favors is some type of food. We're not talking jambalaya here, we are talking about some cookies, fudge, or, even better, chocolates. Many couples love this idea because food can either be purchased cheaply or made at home. Most wedding guests will probably end up eating the chocolates at some point during the reception. Plus, who doesn't like chocolate?
If you really want to go the whole "keepsake" route with your wedding gifts then some type of photo book or frame might work. You can usually get a good bulk rate on small photo books, and if you supply drinks and some sort of food, you can usually get your friends to help put together these photo books for no charge. Framed pictures might be a bit more expensive, but at the same time, if it's a good picture and a cute frame, chances are many of the wedding guests will put it up and not stow them away.
In the end, a couple should just go from the heart when it comes to finding the perfect wedding favor. Of course, anyone can give guidance, but the final decision always rests with the bride and groom. Or, maybe, just the bride, if we are being honest.

If you live in a climate that is usually warm and sunny (I'm looking at you California) then you should have no problem having an outdoor wedding in July. But then again, freak storms do happen, so does your location have contingency plans? If you live in a rainy/ stormy climate your only option may be indoors (unless you really, really like the snow).What about food? Can the outdoor location accommodate mobile kitchens so that the (party) be at the same location? Or is it easier to just have both indoors.
This is not to deter you from attempting to have an outdoor wedding. The upsides can be amazing. The views, the breeze, and the lighting are all amazing. It's all about finding a place the works best for you, may it be indoors or out.
