This is my 1st brand new machine. I had always rec'd hand-me-downs before and they were never good machines to begin with. I would rate myself as a decent sewer. I recently got into quilting. This machine you will give you nice stitches, you don't have to worry about your project falling apart. (If you have ever had that happen you know how devastating it can be). I think this machine would be good for anyone, even if they were new to sewing. The manual is super easy and so is winding the bobbin and threading the machine. I did a lot of research and for the features, this was the best quality for the price.

My husband bought this sewing machine for me for our anniversary. I'm simply delighted every time I sit down to sew a project or do the humdrum, mending, primarily because of the variety of stitches available to meet my various needs. You see, I've had a bargain-priced Singer with only straight and zigzag stitches since 1972. Though to date I've only used three different stitches, this machine has lit the fire of creativity in me. Equally important are the cost of it, the ease of use and its many features. A woman who has sewn for 40 years, I never thought I could be so thrilled about a machine. This is like stepping out of my Oldsmobile station wagon and into my new Honda Accord. I can't wait to start my Chrismas sewing project, patchwork tote bags. 5 star rating published 8/2009

This is my 3rd Singer in 40 years. My first machine made countless dresses, pants, prom dresses, and upholstered a lot of furniture. My second machine was not heavy duty enough for what I do now. I make flannel blankets for Project Linus and average 3-5 blankets a week. The Singer 7470 is perfect! I have tried out all the features, which work perfectly. The instruction book is easy to follow. I love the numerous stitches that can be accessed with just a push of a button and that to get back to straight sewing, you just turn off the machine and when you turn it back on - straight sewing again.
