The main reason that most people do not have six pack abdominals is due to the lack of dedication and motivation. This does not mean that it is impossible because anybody can achieve a 6 pack of great looking abs. Here is a short guide that if you follow correctly will lead you to a better looking stomach.

Nutrition

Nutrition is by far the most important part when it comes to getting great abdominal muscles. You can have incredibly abs, but if they are covered by a layer of fat or even worse a pot belly, then what is the point.

Start by changing the way you eat. Instead of 3 meals a day cut them all in half or a little more and have 6 meals a day. Eating like this will increase your metabolism, which has numerous benefits including burning fat fast.

Next, you need to cut out the foods that are causing that layer of fat over your abdominal region. Stop eating all of the following:

-fructose corn syrup - This is by far the worst thing you can put in your body other than poison!
-candy
-dessert
-fast food
-white bread - Processed white anything is horrible for you and needs to be avoided at all costs. It is very unnatural.
-pasta - If you must have pasta make sure you eat either the whole wheat noodles or the spinach noodles and limit yourself to a smaller portion with a red natural tomato based sauce.
-soda/pop
-hydrogenated oils
-sugars

After cutting out all the crap that is listed above you will need to start eating foods that will feed your new set of 6 pack abdominal muscles. Eat the following on a regular basis:

-oatmeal
-olive oil
-whole grain breads - The more natural they are the better.
-fruits
-vegetables
-nuts
-eggs
-natural peanut butter
-chicken
-fish
-protein
-green tea
-water

Now we all slip from time to time or are in situations where white bread is the only choice or grandma wants us to try her new pie. It happens, but make a concious effort to change your eating habits and you will be well on your way to your new 6 pack of abs.

Exercise

The next focus is your exercise routine. You need to exercise at a bare minimum of 3 times a week, but 4 times would be better. There are three areas of concentration: cardio (running, swimming, aerobics, biking, or anything active), weight lifting, and abdominal exercises.

When performing cardio exercise you want to do this twice a week and you want to do it in intervals. For example, if you are running, then walk or jog for about a minute and sprint for about 15 seconds. This will help boost your human growth hormone levels, which promote muscle growth.

Lifting weights is very important. Did you know that if you add on a pound of muscle it will burn as many calories as jogging 1/3 of a mile? And that is while you are sitting on your couch watching the big game or Oprah, whatever your preference is. You should do 2 sessions a week of about 30 minutes each and if you need help figuring out exactly what to do your gym will have a personal trainer or you can simply do a weight lifting exercise search on Google.

Just make sure you hit all the major muscle groups with one or two exercises a week and you will be fine.

The last exercises that you need to do are abdominal exercises and since the title is "Six Pack Abdominals" these are very important. There are many different exercises you can perform and some are better than others. The best one will be found in a top guide, but it will not be free, as the best information rarely is.

One last tip....Every two or three weeks change your routine a little bit so that your body does not get used to doing the same thing over and over again. Also, make sure to get plenty of rest, 48 hours off in a row each week, and a little longer every 8 weeks or so. This is when your body will grow the most and it is important to rest your new six pack abdominals.
