Skateboarding has been a craze since the past few years mainly due to the exposure of the Internet and Sports channels like ESPN. Skateboarding is incomplete without a skateboard deck. Not all decks are designed as same. All the big brands, huge teams and skateboarding idols such as Andrew Reynolds, Tony hawk have taken the whole industry by storm. Lets delve more into the very basics of this adventurous outdoor sport.

Styles of skateboard decks

All the skateboard decks are same would be a wrong notion to go by; they may look same, but the subtle differences make the world of difference to any skater. Beginner level or pro skater level every skater knows his strengths and weaknesses and wants to use a board in which he can enhance his skill. Ultimately it all comes down to the needs as to why you intend to purchase your deck. There are various styles of decks available in the market- the measurements all vary from style to style of a skateboarder. The final purchase should be the one made for you; you can choose one that is made or go for a build your own complete to have it customized as per your choice

Three main forms of decks available are-

Street Decks: Every skateboarder at each stage of his learning phase wants to use a particular deck. If you are in the early stages and just maneuvering into this sport then the smaller decks are for kids. They are the smaller sized models available in the market today, roughly around 7.5" wide and 31" long. Ideal option for street tricks that you want to flaunt in front of your friends.

Pool Decks: They are just wider than street , typically around 9" wide and having the same length.

Long board decks:Long board decks also known as Downhill decks have the largest assortment in shapes and sizes. They don't have a set designated length of the board, and the deck is significantly longer than any other boards. They can be as wide as a pool deck or as narrow as the street deck. Long boarding is one of the most popular expert level tricks. The length of the longboard decks plays a significant role when it comes to performing a stunt downhill.
