It is Possible to Sleep With Tinnitus
For thousands of people, learning to sleep with tinnitus is an issue that can occupy a lot of time. For those of us that do not suffer from ear ringing, we do not understand the torture it can be.Imagine trying to sleep with a constant buzzing or ringing sound in your ears. Would you get used to it? Some patients do. Would it get louder and different in pitch? Sometimes it does. For those who can not block it out, this can consume their waking moments.
Often there is a catch 22 situation as well. By being unable to sleep with tinnitus, it creates stress within the person which can make the symptoms worse. It can become a terrible cycle. This lens will outline four strategies that people are using to reduce their ear ringing.

Utilize Background Noise to Sleep With Tinnitus
Some tinnitus sufferers have found some relief from background noises. This is usually reserved for those with minor cases of ear ringing. The idea behind it is that if there is ambient noise in the room as you are drifting to sleep, it can confuse the brain into focusing on that instead of the buzzing sound. Each person who has found a reduction with this method does it slightly different. It is up to you to test different sounds and volumes until you find the one that works for you. Some techniques to start with are music from a radio, soft music in head phones, high pitched instruments, or low frequency sounds. Keep experimenting until you can sleep with tinnitus.

A Sound Masker May Allow You to Sleep With Tinnitus
There are devices that have been developed solely for the purpose of people that need to sleep with tinnitus. If the technique of ambient background noise is not working, this is a more aggressive approach.Since these devices were developed specifically for people trying to sleep with tinnitus, they seem to have a slightly higher rate of success. In most cases, they look like small headphones that insert directly into your ear.
This strategy will not work for everyone, but there is a way to tell if it might. It is called the faucet test. Stand by a sink and run the water at full blast. If you find some relief, then this may work for you. Make sure that it is silent.
Sleep With Tinnitus by Reducing Stress and Relaxing!
There seems to be a common factor that increases ear ringing in a large percentage of people. This is stress. Some experts think that tinnitus is worsened by a raise in blood pressure. Stress can certainly do this.Patients that post to forums often report being able to sleep with tinnitus by practicing relaxation techniques. This can be in the form of meditation, deep breathing, yoga, pilates, or getting rid of the stressful things in your life. Pretty much anything that will reduce your feeling of being "frazzled" can be attempted. Again, the key is to find what works for you. Everyone is different.
Reducing Stimulants May Help You Sleep With Tinnitus
This simple thing is often overlooked as a source of ear ringing. This may be tied into the theory of increased blood pressure. Stimulants such as caffeine and nicotine certainly do raise a person's blood pressure.Relief may be found by reducing your coffee in the morning or sodas in the daytime. You can replace these with juice and water. It may difficult at first, but keep in mind your goal of being able to sleep with tinnitus.
