The Smurfs made their first appearance in 1958, created by Peyo, of Belgium (1928-1992). Here's a picture of wise Papa Smurf, who is the groups leader.The Smurfs are tiny, blue creatures who live in mushroom houses in a village hidden in the forest. Smurfs are blue, three-apples tall, and speak a dialect which makes heavy use of the word "smurf". The root word "smurf" is used extensively as a noun, verb, and everything in-between; "what a smurfy smurf, Papa Smurf" would not be an uncommon sentence. There are over 100 Smurfs inside the Smurf Village. The Smurfs are led by 543-year-old Papa Smurf, a good and powerful wizard. Each Smurf is assigned a task in the village, according to their ability and the needs of the community. Smurfs live peaceful lives in harmony with nature. The word "Schtroumpf" (Smurf) is the Flemish equivalent of the English language colloquial "Whatchamacallit".

It's smurfy fun for ages 5 and up. One of the first PlayStation games dedicated to the younger gamer that parents will equally enjoy.
Divided into two parts-an initiation stage for the PlayStation novice and a more complex stage for those ready for a challenge-The Smurfs was especially designed to keep young children entertained for hours and possibly make gamers out of them.
Dropped by a stork flying over the Smurf Village, it's the virtual Baby Smurf! The goal in the first section: care for Baby Smurf and make sure that he stays happy. Playing as Hefty Smurf, players can explore 7 levels to search for items and food to cater to the baby's needs. Each stage progresses in difficulty and includes an option to replay the levels over again.
More skilled players can attempt the second section. Baby Smurf and 9 other Smurfs have been kidnapped by the Gorgs: magical creations of Gargamel--the Smurfs' longtime enemy. It's up to Hefty Smurf to save his fellow Smurfs from their unlucky plight. During his quest to find them, Hefty interacts with various enemies like the Cracoucass bird and explores 10 diverse settings: a mine, volcano, forest, mountain, and moat. And, he's got to remember to take care of the virtual Baby Smurf from time to time!

This game is a real treasure on the Colecovision. Beautifully-detailed graphics which clearly are representative of the charm of The Smurfs cartoon series. In addition, good sound effects and a whimsical music soundtrack (including upbeeat music for the outdoor daytime scenes and dark, dreary music for the scenes in the caverns and Gargamel's castle). Add to this great controls and lots of replay value, and you have a real winner.

Very meaningful, "Deck the Halls", and the finale "We Wish You A Merry Christmas are all part of this wonderful Smurfy repertoire!

- I LOVE Smurfs. When I was little, I actually had some of the original plastic smurfs, which were orange! Later we saw the blue ones here. I still watch the cartoon from time to time with my kiddos.

- the plush Papa Smurf in the Papa and Smurfette pic is the one I had-have (I stiil have all my Smurf stuff).
and OMG! they're bringing out the English seasons now! I didn't think they'd get to them that soon. Season one of the English traslated version is availbe for pre-order on Amazon. I've been waiting for that. They've been bringing them out in order, so sofar the only ones on DVD are the older French seasons, which were never translated into English. They started back in the 1950's but there are no English versions until the 1980's seasons.
