Used Snowblowers- How to Repair
Repair your used snowblowers!
Self propelled snow blower will start but only runs in choke positionThere are a few things that can cause this, but generally can be narrowed down to a lean mixture. To get it running properly, install a new spark plug. Next, remove the carburetor and dissasemble it. Clean the inlet needle and seat throughly, as well as the jets. Use good carb cleaner. If the machine has a fuel filter, glass bowl, or in tank screen, clean or replace them. After doing all of this, it should run fine.
When blowing deep snow, my snowblower chute keeps getting clogged up
It's probably time to replace the paddles. you can try waxing the chute and paddles to see if that helps.
Need New paddles on my snowblower but the old ones are held in by rivets
The rivets need to be drilled or ground off with small grinder, and hammered out.
The replacement paddles should come with small bolts to attach them. If they don't pick some up from your local hardware store.

Simple SnowBlower Maintenance
Some simple tips to keep your snowblower in great running condition:
* For gas-powered machines, follow the recommendations in the owner's manual for changing the spark plug and--for models with a four-stroke engine--the engine oil. Most recommend changing both at least once each year.* Follow the recommendations for mixing oil and gas on models with two-stroke engines. Too little oil can damage the engine; too much creates added exhaust emissions and can hamper starting by fouling the spark plug.
* Add a fuel stabilizer to preserve the fuel between storms and clearing seasons. Stabilizers can keep fuel from degrading for up to one year to help prevent gum and varnish deposits from clogging the carburetor and fuel passages.
* For two-stage machines, have some spare auger shear bolts on hand. The bolts are designed to protect the gearbox by breaking if the auger hits a hard object.
* For all machines, periodically tighten nuts and bolts, especially on control linkages, which tend to loosen as a snow thrower vibrates.
* Adjust the auger's scraper and skid shoes if applicable, as suggested in the owner's manual. Doing so helps keep the auger closer to the surface, leaving less snow behind.

Can you change snow blower pulley size?It depends on the snowblower, belt type and what you arer trying to achieve by making the change. The replacement pulley(s) will have to be the same shaft id as the original to start. Next make sure that there is room inside the snowblower for the new pulley. Thirdly the belt may have to change depending on the pulley size that you choose. There are many different pulley types and sizes available. Be aware of the changes that are made because they can decrease the snow throwing ability and also affect the drive speed and vice versa.
Why do snowblower jams occur?
A snow blower can jam for several reasons, but it's basically either a jam in the auger or a jam in the discharge chute. A jam can sneak up on you if the snow is particularly wet or icy, if you were moving very quickly through an area or if your auger isn't properly breaking all of the chunks down into smaller pieces. Additionally it's possible that other objects can get lodged in the machinery, such as rocks, frozen mud or grass and so on.
First you want to make sure to turn the snowblower off. Please note, that just because the snowblower is turned off, it's not safe to just stick your hand in there and start moving things around! Even NHL player Joe Sakic can attest to that, as he injured himself recently doing just that and has to miss 3 months of the season!
How to fix my snowblower engine?
I have a second hand snowblower with an electric starter on it. The only way I can get it started is by using full choke, full throttle, and priming the line about 12 times. The engine will start and then fail. If I continue priming while starting I can get the engine to keep running. Eventually it will run on it's own after a minute or two. I figure the choke is probably sticking and not opening fully as the engine warms. The engine idles and runs hard. It usually stalls a few times while I am blowing snow. I am sure the mixture is too rich, but if I try to change the choke or throttle setting, the engine dies. Any ideas on what I can do?
Clean the carb out. Take off the bowl and clean . Clean the entire carb with carb cleaner . Mix some stabil in with your gas mixture . Gas probably sat too long and gunked up the carb .
