Soccer History
The history of soccer is long and complex, having descended from a huge assortment of games played in medieval times and before. Various primitive forms of the sport existed throughout the world, with most countries having their own type of ball game in the past. Some famous examples include one played in China as long ago as 1BCE, and an Inuit game played in Greenland. In modern times soccer has been formalized significantly resulting in national leagues of ever-growing fame and fortune. Just fifty years ago soccer players were still paid a modest wage, but in more recent years the industry has grown rapidly to provide a great many players with six-figure-a-week earnings. This has caused much controversy around the world with views on the amount soccer players are paid varying. It is often frowned upon, and some think that the soccer players' salaries should be capped much like it is in the NBA.
In spite of modern soccer-stardom there have been some major historical legends of the sport. Perhaps the two most famous are Pele and Maradona. The Brazilian player Pele became the youngest player to ever play in a World Cup final match at the age of 17. He also went on to become the only player to be on three World-Cup winning sides. Maradona was another player of exceptional talent who came from Argentina. However, he went on to become more infamous than famous for drugs use and the "hand of God" where he scored a goal with his hand intentionally in a World Cup quarter-final which was not spotted by the referee and was therefore allowed, sending Argentina through to the next round.
Soccer Basics
Ball control, running with the ball, balance and agility.
For any great player, whether contemporary or an historic legend, some basics are absolutely essential to playing good soccer. Ball control, running with the ball, balance and agility, and a few tricks and tips are the core of good play.Ball control is of utmost importance to a soccer player: if you can't stop the ball well or pass it effectively then you won't be able to support your team-mates during a match. One of the best ways to practice ball control is by simply kicking a ball against a wall. Practice your ability to kick the ball against the wall repeatedly in a constant fashion whilst only touching the ball to kick it. Then practice stopping the ball, without letting it leave your feet, each time it rebounds off the wall. Just by doing these two exercises you will begin to improve your ball control.
To practice running with the ball simply run as fast as you can with the ball without losing control of it by letting it get too far away from your feet. Remember that if the ball gets too far from your feet it becomes very easy for opponents to take the ball, so keeping close control is essential. You might need to start slowly at first, and gradually build up to higher speed over time. This is absolutely fine; it is the only way to improve your ability to run fast while keeping the ball. The practice of kicking the ball against a wall will also help with running with the ball as you must be able to continually kick the ball in a very controlled way in order to run with it.
Finally, to train in agility and balance set up a slalom by placing around 10 items in a line each about one meter apart and then practice dribbling the ball while weaving around these. Weaving in and out of the objects, which are usually cones if you are training in proper facilities, tests your agility and your balance as you must constantly shift your body-weight from one side to the other while keeping the ball and changing direction. If you practice these regularly then you will improve your core abilities with the ball dramatically.
Soccer Stars
All the top players of the moment train with these sort of exercises constantly. It helps them keep their abilities sharp so they can perform to their best in each game. Three of the most famous stars are Cristiano Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, and Lionel Messi.Cristiano Ronaldo is a famous Portuguese player who has risen to massive stardom in the last few years. He plays for Manchester United FC in the English Premier League. At the age of 23 he has already scored over 100 goals in professional matches and is known best for his incredible skill at running with the ball and taking it past other players. Not only is he incredibly fast, but his talent with performing lightning quick step-overs makes it nearly impossible for defenders to tackle him. Whilst he scores many goals he actually plays as a winger, taking the ball down the side of the pitch at high speed to cross it in for the central attackers.
Ronaldinho comes from Brazil and has the natural flair which that country is famous for. He grew up playing street and beach-football which gave him incredible skills and ball control. This has allowed him to become one of the most successful players in the world and his talents are displayed in almost every match he plays. He is another quick player, but also has an impressive talent for taking free-kicks. Like so many of the Brazilians his passion for the sport really shines through in his playing style. He simply loves to play the game.
Lionel Messi is just 21 now and comes from Argentina like the great legend Maradona. Indeed, Maradona has called Messi his "successor". He played soccer from the early age of 5 but at 11 was found to have a rare illness that cost a lot of money to treat. Eventually FC Barcelona, who were aware of his talent, made him an offer he couldn't refuse. If he moved to Spain and played for the club they would sign him and pay for his medical treatment. Since then he has been playing in La Liga for FC Barcelona and scored his debut goal at the age of 17, which made him the youngest ever goal-scorer in La Liga.

Cristiano Ronaldo Soccer Tricks
Perhaps the most famous and most used trick is the step-over trick. Any fans of Manchester United will be well familiar with this as it is Cristiano Ronaldo's famous signature move. You will see him use it almost every match, and it allows him to make incredible runs along the wing and into prime crossing positions or right into the heart of the action for a direct shot at goal!In order to do this trick it is necessary to perfect your dribbling ability. Once you are confident with controlling the ball while on the move you can practice properly. To perform this trick you must reach out with one leg as if to touch the ball on the outside of your foot, but deliberately miss, allowing your foot to pass just beyond the ball and land on the outside of it. You must then bring the ball back under your control with your trailing foot.
The lead foot looks as though it goes to kick the ball outwards, sending your opponent in a different direction when you are actually retaining your current direction. If you want to see some excellent examples of this trick, watch some of Cristiano Ronaldo's matches. You might have to watch it on slow motion to get a good look though!

FIFA 09 Preview
FIFA 09 Release Date, Preview and Trailer
---------------
With FIFA 09, EA Sports may have finally got the drop on the Pro Evolution Soccer franchise. With over 250 changes, as stated by Electronic Arts, FIFA 09 aims to become the best football game available on the market this year. One of the best improvements in FIFA is player animation. EA has worked extremely hard to make the animations more fluid, and while this won't change gameplay, it will give you more to awe over in instant replay mode.
EA has also worked to make the gameplay more realistic. Along with the animations, the actual physics of the game have been juiced, creating a higher level of realism and forcing the player to use more strategy on a game-to-game approach.
The "Be a Pro" mode returns in FIFA 09. Many additions have been made to the mode, which will make the popular version from FIFA 08 seem elementary.
If that wasn't enough, EA has worked hard to make further additions to the online gameplay of FIFA 09. EA has announced a 10 v 10 online mode. That's right, every player on the field, with the exception of the goalie, can be controlled by a human. The details on this mode haven't been released yet, but considering EA's reputation with solid online play, it should be a success that could lead the way for similar implications in other titles by EA Sports (11 v 11 on Madden, for example). In conclusion, FIFA 09 could not only end up as the best football title of the year, it could end up as the most innovative football game that has ever hit store shelves.
We can all agree on that, the all new FIFA 09 will be the ultimate perfect gift for any soccer - football fan for this Christmas.

Soccer Jerseys
Whilst we all recognize the teams these players play for now, in thirty years' time young people who look back in time might not. We recognize the famous jersey designs of today, but these designs change over time with fashion and technology. Whilst new technology makes various changes in material possible, it is really fashion where we see the biggest changes. If you ever watch old soccer match footage from the 70s and 80s you can immediately see a huge difference in the style of the clothing. Maradona once appeared in tiny white shorts which clung tightly to him and left nearly his entire legs exposed! Similarly, changes in jersey style can be seen. They change from loose to tight-fitting, with long or short sleeves, sometimes collars are in fashion but then go back out of fashion and collarless shirts appear again. Right now the most popular style tends to be the collarless jersey.
Other changes are the kinds of color which are used. For example bold colors are more in fashion at the moment so many teams wear strongly-colored shirts. However, at other times pastel colors were more popular. One thing which changes far less often is the team's basic home colors. Manchester United are highly unlikely to change from a red jersey. Indeed, red is a core part of their recognition; they even have the nickname "the red devils". So whilst fashion changes the design and style of the jerseys, some things will never change.
