Ball control is of utmost importance to a soccer player: if you can't stop the ball well or pass it effectively then you won't be able to support your team-mates during a match. One of the best ways to practice ball control is by simply kicking a ball against a wall. Practice your ability to kick the ball against the wall repeatedly in a constant fashion whilst only touching the ball to kick it. Then practice stopping the ball, without letting it leave your feet, each time it rebounds off the wall. Just by doing these two exercises you will begin to improve your ball control.

To practice running with the ball simply run as fast as you can with the ball without losing control of it by letting it get too far away from your feet. Remember that if the ball gets too far from your feet it becomes very easy for opponents to take the ball, so keeping close control is essential. You might need to start slowly at first, and gradually build up to higher speed over time. This is absolutely fine; it is the only way to improve your ability to run fast while keeping the ball. The practice of kicking the ball against a wall will also help with running with the ball as you must be able to continually kick the ball in a very controlled way in order to run with it.

Finally, to train in agility and balance set up a slalom by placing around 10 items in a line each about one meter apart and then practice dribbling the ball while weaving around these. Weaving in and out of the objects, which are usually cones if you are training in proper facilities, tests your agility and your balance as you must constantly shift your body-weight from one side to the other while keeping the ball and changing direction. If you practice these regularly then you will improve your core abilities with the ball dramatically.

With FIFA 09, EA Sports may have finally got the drop on the Pro Evolution Soccer franchise. With over 250 changes, as stated by Electronic Arts, FIFA 09 aims to become the best football game available on the market this year.

One of the best improvements in FIFA is player animation. EA has worked extremely hard to make the animations more fluid, and while this won't change gameplay, it will give you more to awe over in instant replay mode.


EA has also worked to make the gameplay more realistic. Along with the animations, the actual physics of the game have been juiced, creating a higher level of realism and forcing the player to use more strategy on a game-to-game approach.

The "Be a Pro" mode returns in FIFA 09. Many additions have been made to the mode, which will make the popular version from FIFA 08 seem elementary.

If that wasn't enough, EA has worked hard to make further additions to the online gameplay of FIFA 09. EA has announced a 10 v 10 online mode. That's right, every player on the field, with the exception of the goalie, can be controlled by a human. The details on this mode haven't been released yet, but considering EA's reputation with solid online play, it should be a success that could lead the way for similar implications in other titles by EA Sports (11 v 11 on Madden, for example).
