Social Blushing Treatment Method #1

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a very common way to treat social anxiety and blushing fears. You meet with a specially trained therapist who walks you through various techniques to stop your anxiety. They work to reprogram your way of thinking about blushing and help you to learn how to overcome social blushing. They usually use exposure therapy to slowly exposure you to the situation and will usually accompany you on the first few encounters. They will teach you about relaxation techniques such as progressive relaxation and abdominal breathing exercises. They may also bring up the use of medications but these are not necessary for blushing.

Social Blushing Treatment Method #2

Medication is another way to treat social blushing, though as I mentioned, it is not necessary. Medication for social anxiety usually includes anti-anxiety pills such as benzodiazepines. Two commonly prescribed medications for social blushing include: xanax or klonopin. These are commonly prescribed but can have side affects. Common side affects include tiredness, uncoordinated movements, fogginess, impaired activity, depression, confusion, memory loss, nausea, upset stomach, blurred vision and so on. This can greatly impact your work or school activities since you will be sedated. There is also a chance for addiction while taking benzodiazepines for blushing.

Social Blushing Treatment Method #3

A third treatment for blushing and anxiety are herbal remedies. There are many different herbs which can help to decrease blushing episodes. Herbs have been taken for centuries to treat various ailments and anxiety is just one of them. Blushing can sometimes be controlled by taking any of the following herbs.

  • Passion Flower

  • Lemon Balm

  • Valerian Root

  • St. John's Wort

  • Cowslip

  • Skullcap

  • Wood Betony

  • Motherwort

  • Chamomile

Before starting any new herbal routine for social blushing or anything else, it is always a good idea to visit your doctor to make sure there aren't any complications with other conditions you may have.
