You lens is really good and informative. You could add http://eggig.com to your list, which is squidoo friendly and do-follow social bookmarking site.

Great tips! Some other sites are no longer live so I guess you should get yourself updated with what's the latest and that is because everything with internet marketing too is fast changing.

Great tips, as I need all the help I can get! I totally agree with "Don't Just Self Promote"! And by the way, Lensmaster CCGAL had your lens link posted on her Facebook, which is what brought me here!

More great insight on building traffic to my lenses... greatly appreciated as I am still new and learning a lot about traffic and backlinks and content and ... and... and... The learning curve is never ending - but I'm hoping it is going to lead to a long and prosperous road to success!

Good info. Thanks so much for sharing this. I'm an affiliate marketer and this will really help with my Google rankings. I like the tip about not spamming with just your own URL and sharing your appreciation of other peoples work as well.

Excellent lens, I think traffic generation is such a delicate process in a sense that it is very easy to overdo your efforts and unintentionally become a spammer. The information you have put up on getting natural back links and traffic is such a huge help, have to say thank you!!

ricky very nice information but if you tell me what is the use of the bookmarking and how to use this bookmarking sites. How many bookmarking sites should one person register with because their are unlimited bookmarking sites are floating and these bookmarking sites are very confusing
  • RickyRobi Dec 18, 2010 @ 8:34 am | delete
As I explained in the intro using bookmarking sites gets backlinks and draws traffic. The backlinks help raise your pagerank and will get you listed higher in the search results.

You should only register with as many bookmarking sites as you have time to remain active on. Don't register just to add your links and leave. That is spamming and will turn off potential visitors through that site. Find a bookmarking site you like to use and that has a community you like being involved with. This social activity will help draw traffic. Don't be fake with this activity, but make friends and they will help you as you help them.

As you mention, the secret of making bookmarking effective is to be natural. Once others see your lens there is a good chance that they too will bookmark your lens and it then become viral.

Definitely some good tips that I will keep in mind. One I'm guilty of is bookmarking my own lenses because I'm trying to promote my newest lens. I was better at it when I had more free time. I will try to be more disciplined about using those sites. Thanks.

Very nice presentation of some good squidoo social bookmarking tips!
  • Jul 30, 2010 @ 2:49 pm | delete
When I started out on Squidoo and learned about bookmarking, I made the mistake of submitting a lot of lenses very quickly. I didn't get it ... so I didn't have success with it. It's called SOCIAL bookmarking because it works when we socialize with other people. Without any personal connections, it's just advertising. People respond when they're treated like people.
  • flirtylingerie Jul 29, 2010 @ 5:19 pm | delete
I enjoyed reading your lense and have picked up a number of great hints on sb. While I completely agree with your statement "Don't just self promote", it is important to keep in mind that social bookmarking will "work" commensurate with the number of backlinks you have. Keep in mind the pr of the bookmarking site, the proper use of keywords, and most importantly if the site is a do follow site. i was on a site today that does not allow squidoo lenses as news items. I will return and list it on a comment as one to avoid if you are doing squidoo bookmarks.

You know it boggles the mind just how many social media platforms there are and all the protocols and social etiquettes of each. It's a bit of a science to balance all that.

Nice lens. I am going to lensroll it to my lens: How to get your lens noticed with more traffic. Thanks for sharing on Twitter!
  • Lien Feb 18, 2009 @ 10:33 am | delete
I have bookmarked every one of my lenses on about 50 bookmarking sites so far and it hasn't made a lot of difference within Squidoo only on Google.
Delicious isn't really any good anymore because it has a No-Follow hence your link within Google won't juice back. 5 Stars.

I added links to other lenses that may better explain it for you.

I never really understood the social bookmarking scene and able to translate it into traffic. Would love if you could introduce some more strategies on this lens on how to use social bookmarking in an effective manner.
