THE CURRENT PRESENTATION:

"Why We Cry: The Truth About Tearing Up"

"The lowdown on tears: Why some cry easily, others don't cry, and how to handle all those tears."

It starts with a quivering lip. Or maybe blinking faster and faster to keep the wetness from escaping.

Before you know it, you're getting teary — again.

You may be one of those people who cry at the drop of a hat — not to mention weddings, birthday parties, your kids' school plays, and the humane society public service announcements showing those adorable dogs in need of new homes.

Or you may be the type who can't remember when you last cried.

Either way, crying often catches the often-teary eyed or the usually stoic off guard — striking at a time or place where you don't want to weep — and others don't want to watch you weep.

Just ask New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick, normally stoic, who got teary as he announced the retirement of his star linebacker Tedy Bruschi. Or Hilary Clinton, whose tears one night on the 2008 presidential campaign trail were splashed across TV screens.

Football coaches and politicians crying in public may reflect a society that's evolving to become a bit more comfortable with emotion. But crying in front of people can still be awkward for the person crying and people around them.

What's behind our crying? Why do some people cry so much more or less readily than others? And what's the best way to handle all those tears? Is there a way not to cry when it's totally inappropriate, such as in response to your boss declining that request for a raise?  Researchers and therapists who study crying share what they've learned — and what still puzzles them.

"Beware the Marketing Tricks Used by Supermarkets"

"Avoid grocery stores' marketing tricks"

If you ever leave the grocery store with a slight sense of bewilderment at what you've just bought, you are not alone.

Despite the utilitarian look of most grocers' shelves, careful science goes into deciding how to display the thousands of items each store carries and how to make them appeal to consumers.

Marketers tug shoppers toward items they did not intend to buy (thus the bewilderment) with package design, shelf placement, tie-ins and temporary price cuts.

"You can call it exploitation or you can call it savvy marketing," says Tod Marks, a senior editor at Consumer Reports who is known as Tightwad Tod on his blog on the magazine's Web site.

Kit Yarrow, a consumer psychologist who teaches at Golden Gate University, said marketers have put more thought into grocery stores than any other type of store because they see an opportunity in the monotony of shopping for necessities.

"It is really a blind spot for most people once they get into the grocery store because it's a very habituated activity for them," Yarrow said. "It's also relatively boring so they don't want to put in as much thought as they put into a new handbag or a new suit."

"There's not much that happens by accident in there," Yarrow added.

"Could Humans Infect Pets With H1N1?"

Until this week, many veterinarians asserted that it was a myth that house cats could catch the deadly H1N1 flu from their owners.

Those veterinarians, along with other health experts, are revising their views after an Iowa Department of Public Health announcement Wednesday that the virus has been confirmed in an indoor 13-year-old cat, which likely contracted the illness from two flu-sick humans in its home.

Although all of the victims have since recovered, this latest H1N1 animal case puts the focus on humans as the primary carriers of the illness, which experts don't even want to call "swine" flu anymore.

"We're seeing reverse zoonosis, with the virus jumping from people to animals," Alfonso Torres told Discovery News, explaining that several ferrets have also been infected, resulting in at least one pet ferret death in Nebraska.

"Skeptical Shopper: Get the Most Out of Black Friday Bargains"

The words "Black Friday"--referring to the big shopping day that comes right after Thanksgiving--can trigger different emotions in people: excitement, fear, anxiety, or just plain indifference. But with our shopping tips and some planning, this year's bargain bonanza should be a breeze.

Prepare Your Shopping List

First, you need to know what to look for. According to Dealnews.com's CEO Dan de Grandpre, this year's best deals will be found on low-end netbooks, 15- or 16-inch laptops, Blu-ray players, HDTVs of various sizes, external hard drives, and name-brand LCD monitors.

Be aware of trade-offs, however: Bargain products likely won't have the specs and performance of more expensive models. Though de Grandpre predicts that some 15- or 16-inch laptops will hit stores for under $300, don't count on such a machine having a powerful processor or a lot of memory. If you're just looking for a secondary computer, however, that kind of price would amount to a great deal.

"Judge orders 3 to trial in Anna Nicole drug case"

Three key players in the troubled world of Playboy model Anna Nicole Smith have been ordered to stand trial after a hearing that plumbed the drug-fueled depths of her final years and the alleged roles of her boyfriend and two doctors in feeding her addiction to prescription drugs.

A judge who heard sometimes shocking testimony about the flood of drugs provided to Smith ruled Friday there was sufficient evidence to try the defendants on charges of conspiring to give Smith sedatives and opiates.

Defense lawyers had argued that lawyer Howard K. Stern, Dr. Sandeep Kapoor and psychiatrist Dr. Khristine Eroshevich tried desperately to save the doomed model in her waning years, including a period when she gave birth to a daughter and lost her grown son to a drug overdose.

One of the last pieces of prosecution evidence introduced was a transcript of an investigator's interview of a Smith friend who said she saw Stern placing pills in her mouth.

"He poured them in her mouth like you would a bird," Gina Shelley said in the interview.

Superior Court Judge Robert J. Perry stressed that his ruling required only minimal proof that would cause a reasonable person to suspect the defendants committed the crimes. He dropped one charge that Eroshevich gave Smith placebos, finding there was not sufficient evidence.

"The Young and the Twitterless"

As a general age group, young adults and teens have been relatively slow to warm to Twitter. Some, of course, are crazy about the microblogging service, but others either don't see the point or feel their social media cup already runneth over. It's a rare instance of young people adopting an Internet application after many of their older counterparts have already done so.

They think it's pointless, narcissistic. Some don't even know what it is.

Even so, more young adults and teens -- normally at the cutting edge of technology -- are finally coming around to Twitter, using it for class or work, monitoring the minutiae of celebrities' lives.

It's not always love at first tweet, though. Many of them are doing it grudgingly, perhaps because a friend pressures them or a teacher or boss makes them try the 140-character microblogging site.

"I still find no point to using it. I'm the type of person who likes to talk to someone," says Austyn Gabig, a sophomore at the University of California, San Diego, who only joined Twitter this month because she heard Ellen DeGeneres was going to use tweets as a way to win tickets to her talk show.

WARNING: "...scammers who have rented sites..."

"...scammers who have rented sites from various businesses such as myself and dumped sites and left commissions in hundreds of dollars..."

Quote:
I really hate being judge, jury, and well you know the rest.

I go through ALL my site databases every weekend. I weed out the bouncing emails because so many of you do not take to heart what I say. I say delete your bounces and most do but a few of you only care about how big your member base is regardless of the stress on my server or even getting taken advantage of over multiple accounts. So, I, the kind hearted person I was raised to be protect us all.

Now please pay attention to what I about about to write here:
We DO NOT allow these people on our sites for the simple fact of them them being scammers who have rented sites from various businesses such as myself and dumped sites and left commissions in hundreds of dollars from hard working members that have worked their hearts out earning those commissions.

Here is a list to keep a watch for, don't worry about now as I have scrubbed all your databases of these people. I have been called names, and put down by these people, and I will not have them in my sites. One ex admin of mine is now trying to sneak her wormy little way back in, and that my lovelies is KIM GUY!

So please watch for her and Elizabeth Baker, George Rector, and Lisa Clayton, and OUR latest scammer to take members for well over $1000.00 in commission is Scott Robinson, and Leilani Robinson.

I respect you all and I hate being this way, but guys these are your sites, and I do not want you to be taken.
End of Quote.

Are they: "Punishing Consumers for Paper Billing"?

"Skeptical Shopper: Punishing Consumers for Paper Billing"

Service companies charge customers extra for not switching to paperless billing, under the guise of going green.

When a company announces that it\'s taking steps to "green" its business, I usually applaud. But when T-Mobile and other tech service companies announced that they would begin charging customers for paper bills, under the guise of instituting more-sustainable practices, I was doubtful. Would the tactic help save the environment, or was it just a convenient way to tack on extra charges?

In August, T-Mobile stated that it would start charging customers who wished to receive paper bills via mail a $1.50 monthly fee. The wireless company was already charging $2 monthly for printed itemized, detailed bills--so customers who preferred getting printed, itemized bills in the mail would now have to send T-Mobile an extra $42 per year...
