Stop Cats From Clawing With Soft Paws / Soft Claws Cat Claw Covers

Soft Paws / Soft Claws are little caps that are glued to the kitten or cats claws. They are usually only put on the front claws since the front claws cause the most damage and inflict the most pain.

The veterinarian showed me how to put them on since I had never heard of these and even as rambunctious as my kittens are, the veterinarian and the nurse were able to get them on in a short amount of time.

On the way home each kitten managed to get one Soft Paws / Soft Claws(t) off by the time we got home. I put them back on and they have adapted to them quite well.

For the first day and evening since December 26, 2008 when I brought the kittens home, I actually had a day and night with no scratches, gouges or slice marks anywhere. I actually loved having my baby kittens in my lap again.

Soft Paws / Soft Claws(t) come in a variety of colors: black, red, blue, green, pink and clear. The sizes run for kittens and small size (under 5 pounds), medium (9 to 13 pounds) to large (14 pounds and up).

Another Painful Claw Injury

Yesterday morning I got up and once again received another gouge in my left leg and I said, "That's it you two are going to get declawed".

I know declawing is very painful to the cat or kitten but it was getting to the point where I no longer wanted my sweet little lovable babies around me any more.

I knew I was going to get scratched, clawed and hurt again. It was just a question of "where, next time and how bad".

Veterinarian Checkup

Many Question for the Veterinarian

I made an appointment with a veterinarian to have their regular checkup and to talk about the possibility of having the kittens declawed. The veterinarian said they were both in good health and we began talking about the procedure of declawing.

The veterinarian suggested I try the Soft Paws / Soft Claws(r) for the kittens before going through such a drastic procedure as having them declawed. I had never heard of Soft Paws / Soft Claws(r) and I agreed to try anything.

I really did not want my babies to be in any pain but I didn't want any more pain for myself either.

New Kittens Can Destroy Everything

But They Are So Loveable

Do you remember how rambunctious kittens can be and how you tried so hard to stop your cat from clawing you? I forgot these important things.

I adopted two kittens from a "no kill" shelter in December of 2008 for company after my husband passed away. I decided to get two so they could keep each other company when I wasn't around.

I bought a scratching post for them to use, which they did use but they still continued to wreak havoc on my couch, chair and woodwork but the most painful of all was the scratches, slices, gouges and bleeding they were causing to me. I felt like a human pin cushion.

A squirt bottle of water didn't seem to have any affect on them. Yelling at them was so tiring and did no good, and clapping my hands at them was useless.

I know about the soft claws, but I chose the hardest method for mine. I just taught him not to do that. If he scratches anything except his scratching post, he gets his claws clipped. Since I'm a Vet Tech, I can easily do that. He doesn't like the clipping, so he doesn't use his claws where he's not supposed to. I like that you're letting the world know about these things. There are a lot of people out there who don't know about them, and it IS a great alternative.

I've been using Softpaws for years. Although, I have one cat who has made it her mission to chew them off as quick as she can! I have to hold her for about 20 minutes to make sure the glue has had a chance to really harden.

    Great lens,
