Bring Softball Back!

Softball became an official Olympic sport in 1996. It (along with baseball) was recently voted out for both the 2012 and, despite strong efforts, out of the 2016 Olympics as well. The exclusion of softball has shattered many young girls' dreams of ever making it into the Olympics by playing a sport thay love: softball.
Important!

SOFTBALL SHOULD STAY!

Softball should stay in the Olympics. Although it is already too late for the 2012 and 2016 London Olympics, we don't have to stop petitioning for softball Olympics. This page has several links to sites and petitions supporting Olympic Softball.

Softball is not in the 2012 London Olympics!

The 117th Internation Olympic Committee decided to take softball out of the 2012 London Olympics. However, softball is still eligible for includion in the 2016 Olympics.

Many young girls throughout the world play this sport, on the house, travel and high school level. It would be such as disappointment to these girls who play every season if softball was no longer an Olympic sport after only 4 Olympic tournaments.

A Little Info about Olympic Softball

In the Olympics, eight teams (seven, not including the host team) compete for three medals: gold, silver, and bronze. After a "round-robin", the top four teams advance to the semi-finals. The two winners of the two semi-final games play for gold. The loser of that game wins gold. Then, the other two semifinal participants play for third and fourth, with the winner of that game getting bronze.

After softball was admitted as an official olympic sport in 1996, Team U.S.A. has won gold all three times (1996, 2000, 2004).

Do you think baseball and/or softball should be re-enstated for the 2016 Olympics?

Yes, definitely!

jochris26 says:

Softball needs to be a part of the Olympics just as any other team sport is. Unfortunately for many women, this will be the greatest extent they will be able to take their softball dreams. But, it would be one of their greatest achievements as well and ladies should have the right to be experience it. What are we telling our young girls about the sport, if it is not in the Olympics????
