Bring Softball Back!

Softball became an official Olympic sport in 1996. It (along with baseball) was recently voted to be replaced by bowling. I have nothing against bowling, but softball should be in the Olympics over bowling because it is a more physical sport and much more exciting to watch. The exclusion of softball has shattered many young girls' dreams of ever making it into the Olympics by playing a sport thay love: softball.

SOFTBALL SHOULD STAY!

Softball should stay in the Olympics. Although it is already too late for the 2012 London Olympics, we can still petition for softball in the 2016 Olympics and beyond. This page has several links to sites and petitions supporting Olympic Softball.

Softball is not in the 2012 London Olympics!

The 117th Internation Olympic Committee decided to take softball out of the 2012 London Olympics. However, softball is still eligible for includion in the 2016 Olympics.

Many young girls throughout the world play this sport, on the house, travel and high school level. It would be such as disappointment to these girls who play every season if softball was no longer an Olympic sport after only 4 Olympic tournaments.

A Little Info about Olympic Softball

In the Olympics, eight teams (seven, not including the host team) compete for three medals: gold, silver, and bronze. After a "round-robin", the top four teams advance to the semi-finals. The two winners of the two semi-final games play for gold. The loser of that game wins gold. Then, the other two semifinal participants play for third and fourth, with the winner of that game getting bronze.

After softball was admitted as an official olympic sport in 1996, Team U.S.A. has won gold all three times (1996, 2000, 2004).

Do you think baseball and/or softball should be re-enstated for the 2016 Olympics?

Yes, definitely!

Margo_Arrowsmith says:

Oh, yes. I just don't get this, 'it isn't international enough'

I watched the ping pong. A fascinating, difficult sport that I am not especially interested in.

However, I watched a match between the USA and some Carribean Country. BOTH players were Chinese nationals. But no one is saying anything about Ping Pong not being international enough!

Bring it back!

britbrit says:

YES!!!!!!!!!!!

whats the olympics becoming???!!??

i think there should be a rule that if a sport is put into the olympics then that sport should never be taken out or this is what happens.

as i was watching the olympics this year and no offense to these sports but while i was watching the bird shooting and ping pong etc... i couldnt believe that those sports are still in the olympics while softball is being kicked out and as everyone saw the u.s lost and in some of there games they didnt dominate. if they would of left the sport around longer maybe they would realize that the other teams are catching up and can match team usa...

Lisa Cardona-Delgado says:

To get rid of Softball & Baseball for Bowling? Softball and baseball are OUTDOOR sports, more suitable than INDOOR bowling for the Summer Olympics...AND more exciting than watching Bowling. Put Bowling in the Winter Olympics where it belongs!!!

buffalo says:

I think it should stay in, but if they are going to take out baseball, it makes sense to take out softball too. And MLB never did like to cooperate with the Olympics.

triathlontraining says:

It's popular enough. Certainly more than race-walking!

No, it's better off out.

Very good lens! I thought you included a lot of information about softball in the Olympics and the problems it has encountered with the Olympic Committee. Great work!

Lisa

I agree with Mac33...bowling is NOT as exciting to watch as Baseball & Softball...if Bowling MUST be in the Olympics, keep it in the Winter Olympics...baseball and Softball are outdoor summer sports and should DEFINITELY stay in the Summer Olympics...it's only been in the Olympics for a short time!!!
