Solar Powered Verdier Wagon

Ranked #3,778 in Cars, #196,060 overall

Travelling and camping could have just gotten a whole lot cheaper

The new Verdier eco-van may have revolutionised how future hybrid cars are designed. Using both solar power and diesel with pneumatic suspension it claims 8 litres per 100km.

With rising oil prices and the theory of Global Warming it is a surprise that more solar powered/hybrid cars arnt on the market seeing how appealing something as simple as parking your car in the sun could lower your greenhouse gas emissions.

As you can see it's a lot like the original VW Westfalia, with the same sort of design but with a modern touch. Packed full of features and it's still the same old 'retro' design. Due to be released by 2010 with a target price of US$69,000 they're not all that cheap, but when you weigh it all up you are saving the planet.

    Update

    Not a good sign

It would appear that unfortunately the http://www.verdier.ca/ website is down and can not be accessed at this time.

For the time being at least we are in the dark.

Thats a very nice retro design, however for the price tag of 69,000$ there are better cost options out there, like a Prius hybrid or Tesla for a more luxury vehicle. Its seems many auto makers are turning to Renewable Energy especially solar power these days.

Seems as though everything is going "green" these days, even aircraft like the SolarImpulse which just flew on solar power alone for over 26 hours!

This eco-van is really cool - maybe my wife would fly her Piper Cub to a campground and I could meet her there - we're and aviation family after all!
