You see, you are only born with 2 basic fears. The fear of falling and the fear of loud noises. The rest is all 'learned' somewhere in life. This could be due to how your parents raised you, due to your environment, because you experienced (repetitive) negative social events etc.
Wherever you learned it doesn't matter for now. Just realize that this is a fact. You learned it. Period.
HOW Do I 'Unlearn' And Become Socially Confident?
Yeah, good question... How to do it?!
Well, there are several ways. The most common and recognized one is CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy). This approach gets you results. Yet it's extremely challenging, takes a long time and will not completely eliminate your social anxiety disorder. It helps you to better cope with it...
Then there are several other ways. I tried a whole bunch of them myself, but they are only somewhat useful at best. I'll won't get into this as we're focused here on what we want; solutions!
So after all my efforts in trying to become socially confident -and only partly succeeding- I found EFT. This stands for Emotional Freedom Technique.
This was back in 2005. When I saw it for the first time I thought it was the biggest nonsense ever. Yet I got curious and searched for evidence that it was a scam. To my surprise it turned out to be the real deal.
EFT is a psychological version of accupuncture, yet instead of using needles you use your fingertips to tap on specific meredian points on the body.
The basic premise is that all negative emotions are caused due to a disruption in the body's energy system. And that once you're focussed in on your problem (the energy disruption, anxiety for example) and you stimulate the meredian points on your body, your energy system gets balanced. And as a result the negative emotion disappears!
OK,OK. You probably think I lost it here. And that I believe in Peter Pan and the tooth fairy as well.
That's the challenge with EFT. It looks so stupid that it's difficult to convince people that it works! Yet I have a 100% success rate... And no, you don't have to 'believe in it' for it to work; it's not a placebo.

Tips For Social Confidence
Luckily, you can make some decent progress to overcoming social anxiety yourself. If you want to work on it for yourself, an easy tip I can give you is to try and find negative social experiences from the past and apply EFT to these. The earlier the memory, the better.
