Sonya Tayeh has been a guest judge and choreographer on So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD) starting in Season 4. Her funky contemporary routines are exciting and fresh. She is becoming a sure audience favorite.
This lens is part of a series including the choreographers from the Fox Reality Show SYTYCD. I'm a huge dance fan, and addicted to Reality TV. I've really admired the choreography on the show and for the first five seasons before I started creating lenses about SYTYCD, I wondered, "Where did these great choreographers come from?"
So the purpose of this series of lenses is to provide a short biography of each choreographer, and to remind you of their work on the show.

Sonya Tayeh Biography
Sonya Tayeh was born in Brooklyn, New York and raised in Detroit, Michigan. Tayeh started dancing in college and graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts from Wayne State University in 2005. She is a guest judge and choreographer on "So You Think You Can Dance," directing "combat jazz" and contemporary dance numbers.
Tayeh has instructed dance at the Edge Performing Arts Center, the Millenium Dance Complex, and the Tayeh Dance Company in Los Angeles, California and the Dance Studios Tour specializing in contemporary funk and progressive contact.

- She is definitely talented and has a wonderful grasp of technique. It's amazing not only to conjure such moves in one's mind but having the will and skill to express it too.

- our dance on So You Think You Can Dance, really moved me. My boyfriend and I have loved each other for about 7 years. His mother killed herself about a year ago, and things have been different. We both really love each other, but I feel the relationship is so different. I try to be there for him, and I know he does too, but he doesn't express himself the way he used to be. The dance with Ryan and Ricky moved me so much. I am in no WAY a dancer, but it really moved me to tears. Thank you!
