Sonya Tayeh, Contemporary Funk and Jazz Choreographer
Sonya Tayeh has been a guest judge and choreographer on "So You Think You Can Dance" (SYTYCD) starting in Season 4. Her funky contemporary routines are exciting and fresh. She is becoming a sure audience favorite.
This lens is part of a series including the choreographers from the Fox Reality Show SYTYCD. I'm a huge dance fan, although I've not studied dance in depth, and I've been wondering for the past five seasons, "Where did these great choreographers come from?" So the purpose of these lenses is to provide a short biography of each choreographer, and to remind you of their work on the show.
Sonya Tayeh Biography
Sonya Tayeh was born in Brooklyn, New York and raised in Detroit, Michigan. Tayeh started dancing in college and graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts from Wayne State University in 2005. She is a guest judge and choreographer on "So You Think You Can Dance," directing "combat jazz" and contemporary dance numbers.
Tayeh has instructed dance at the Edge Performing Arts Center, the Millenium Dance Complex, and the Tayeh Dance Company in Los Angeles, California and the Dance Studios Tour specializing in contemporary funk and progressive contact.
