An enjoyable addition to the Southern Vampire Mystery Series by Charlaine Harris!
The day I got the new Sookie Stackhouse book in the "Southern Vampire Series", I was delighted!
I immediately sat down and began reading.
In fact, I could hardly put the book down.
If you have never heard of Sookie Stackhouse or the Southern Vampire Series, then today is your lucky day. Now you have and you, too, can become a fan.

Just Who Is Sookie Stackhouse?
She is a telepathic waitress who works in a bar in the fictional Northern Louisiana town of Bon Temps.
From Wikipedia:Sookie Stackhouse is the main character in The Southern Vampire Mysteries, a series of nine books written by author Charlaine Harris that was first published in 2001. The series is a first-person account of Sookie's life as a barmaid and telepath in the fictional town of Bon Temps, Louisiana. The first book in the series, Dead Until Dark, won the Anthony Award for Best Paperback Mystery in 2001.

Dead and Gone

This book is so easy to read.
Dead and Gone was a hit for me!
First the vampires revealed themselves, now the "weres" are going public.
Life, as the population of Bon Temps knew it, is definitely changing.
The book was an easy read. The characters were easy to keep in order. Not too many subplots to make things confusing. Just enough to keep one guessing. I also enjoyed getting to know more about Sookie's fairy heritage, too. (Sookie has a fairy assigned to watch over her, by the way.)
I only had one problem, the Sookie that used to live in my imagination was gone! Sookie did not look like Anna Paquin in the earlier books before the HBO series True Blood came out. The Sookie I pictured was more petite and curvy. Kind of like a petite Barbie doll. Her hair was definitely bigger, too.
Now, whenever Sookie opened her mouth or her mind, all I could see was Anna Paquin's Sookie. That is not a bad thing, it was just disconcerting for me.
I love the Sookie character. Sookie is "different", yes. Even though she is attractive and loving, the "normal" people in her life treat her differently. They know there is something strange about her. But, she adapted and learned to co-exist with those "normal" ones out there. She even found things about her "gift" to make her smile. What else could she do? Only the "supes" treated her with respect and admiration for who she was. What she is is telepathic -- she can read minds.
I admire Sookie because she speaks her mind and tries to be true to herself. She accepts who she is and takes no "guff" from anyone! She asserts her right to live her life as she chooses and is right proud of it!
Other books by Charlaine Harris:
If you like the Southern Vampire Series, then do I have some books for you!
Just in case you did not know it, Charlaine Harris has written at least four other book series that are every bit as good (I think) as the Sookie novels.
I have read books in every series except the Lily Bard one. And believe me, I will be reading one of those books very soon.
I have not been disappointed in any book by Ms. Harris, yet!
If you have read the other books, please vote for your favorite series here. Feel free to make a comment about your choice in the "guest book" below.
Shakespeare's Landlord (Lily Bard Mysteries, Book 1) by Charlaine Harris
When cleaning lady Lily Bard discovers the dead body of her nosy landlord, her plan of starting a quiet new life may end in her death.
I have not read the Lily Bard series, but I have never been disappointed in any book by Ms. Harris.
0 pointsGrave Sight (Harper Connelly Mysteries, Book 1) by Charlaine Harris
Harper Connelly has what you might call a strange job: she finds dead people. The way Harper sees it, she's providing a service to the dead while bringing some closure to the living-but she's used to most people treating her like a blood-sucking leech.
The Harper Connelly series is dead on good reading!
0 pointsReal Murders (Aurora Teagarden Mysteries, Book 1) by Charlaine Harris
Though a small town at heart, Lawrenceton, Georgia, has its dark side-and crime buffs. One of whom is librarian Aurora "Roe" Teagarden, a member of the Real Murders Club, which meets once a month to analyze famous cases. It's a harmless pastime-until the night she finds a member killed in a manner that eerily resembles the crime the club was about to discuss.
Aurora is a petite sprite of a lady. This series is just plain fun to read--even if it is loaded with murder!
0 pointsDead Until Dark (Southern Vampire Mysteries, No. 1) by Harris Charlaine
For years, Charlaine Harris has delighted fans with her mystery series featuring small-town waitress-turned-paranormal sleuth Sookie Stackhouse. Now, we are pleased to offer her first novel in the series in a special hardcover edition.0 points

- I've read the Southern Vampire Mystery Series since it started. While I've enjoyed the series, it's definitely had its ups and downs. The last book was good but it felt a little rushed -- maybe because season 2 of True Blood was about to start? Either way, I look forward to continuing to read Sookie's adventures!
