- Yes, and it does seem to be in everything. One of the many reasons I avoid processed, packaged foods. It's such a difficult diet to maintain, but they've left us no real alternatives considering the liberties that they are taking in what they call "food" these days.

- Thank you for sharing all this information, Heather. I've been trying to eat healthier -- and after learning I'm gluten intolerant, I've eliminated gluten. I still feel something isn't quite right and wondered about soy. Many many years ago, I tried to drink soy milk because of all the reports about its 'benefits'. I'm now drinking almond milk, which I enjoy. I've been trying to read more about soy and found your lens at the best time. Thanks for listing what ingredients we need to look for - I have a feeling that I'll find it on many of the foods we're eating.

- should make people aware of it being used to make plastics.. if it can do that, sounds like it can give us a heart attack quicker. hmmm we switched from veggie oil to this? id rather it be used for non edibles. i have crohns/colitis, im sure its what i consume. how do you go about finding out if a produce is a GMO?? its going to take alot of work and money to ride of all soy. i heard soy lecithin is ok. is it?

- the lecithin is pulled from the soy before the rest of the process, so it's the least harmful ingredient in it.

- Great lens! Tons of info. I never realized soy was in tuna. I tried drinking soy milk because they claimed it help with menopause, I didn't see any relief so stopped. I guess now after reading this, I am already getting a bunch of soy in my diet. Very scary.

- You are getting it unless you are diligent about making sure you don't. But start today and you can get rid of soy in your diet.

- I told my sister about some stuff I had learned about soy from a book called Why Am I Always So Tired? She decided to quit drinking soy milk and see if that helped her fatigue any. While it hasn't helped her fatigue she did lose eight pounds without trying. Which made her realize she did start gaining weight when she started drinking soy milk. It could be just a coincidence. But it's interesting.
I know you mentioned it in your article, but I want to stress again than in Asian countries most soy foods are Fermented first. And most soy products consumed in the United States are not fermented at all. There is a reason why these other countries have chosen to eat fermented rather than non-fermented soy over the past thousand years or so. We should pay attention to that. There are good things about soy, but cons as well.
Thanks for this information...more people need to know this.

- I was one who used to drink soy protein drink in soy milk with barley green mixed in every morning for breakfast years ago. I am seeing much more information like what you are sharing, am down to some Veggie Slices in my fridge and a container of Organic Soy Milk. I started cutting soy out when I read that it is one of the foods highest in GMO's, now I'm reading all the things you are sharing and wondering if organic is just as bad? I buy organic soy beans at times. Are they just as bad? Blessed, by the way, and added to Diet and Nutrition Squid Angel.

- Yes,organic soybeans are still bad. They are not meant to be consumed unless fermented.

- A great article and very well researched. At one time I believed the lies that soy was good for you. Most of the products in the supermarket are made with soy. I've read all the labels and that is why I don't buy very much when I go food shopping. But I was surprised to learn that tuna has soy in it. I ask why??
Now soy is made into fabric and clothing. This I think is also a very dangerous practice to start wearing soy fabric.

- Who knew? I love soy milk, unfortunately...will have to rethink this. I don't think I consume enough to cause any real damage. Actually, I believe that we should all live by the "everything in moderation" mantra. You have certainly given me something to think about!

- I took soy supplements for some hormone problems and ended up having a very bad reaction to them. Looking into it, I discovered why--soy isoflavones (active ingredient in these supplements, which of course were also pricey) in particular are really bad for you. I get bummed that a lot of the high-protein kids' snack foods, even the "good" brands like Clif Bars or Kashi, are full of soy. My guys hate most meat, so protein is a challenge. Thanks for discussing the dark side of soy...

- Uh oh. I switched over to soy milk for coffee and cereal when I was menopausal and hubby had trouble digesting cow's milk. Plus we eat tofu instead of meat occasionally. I knew about TVP and have found one tuna without it which is all I will buy as TVP really bothers my digestive system. Thank you for raising my awareness on what I thought was a healthful alternative.

- Did you know Vegetable oil is no longer Vegetable as in corn.....it use to be corn or a mix of corn an canola!! If you read your label it is SOY. They never even let folks know they changed it. Soy can kill ya!!
In the very beginning they warned on their new spread...may cause anal leakage......really ruined my appetite!! I avoid soy as much as possible!!
Hard thing is getting folks you love to read labels!!
Great lens!!! 5*

- An article after my own heart........I also researched the negative affects of soya and created a lens on the subject. From what I read as I researched, I am very surprised that they still allow this product to be fed to babies and young children, the future consequences will be devasting for some kids. Thanks for contributing your article.

- Very interesting... I've heard good and bad things about soy. Like you say, it's always wise to follow the money. Fluoride and whey also ended up in our food and water supplies because they were cheap byproducts (really garbage). It's pretty scary!
