Spill Containment Berms -- What Exactly Is a Spill Berm?

What is a berm, actually? Just take a look at the pictures. It's a portable barrier that can be laid out to surround and contain a spill -- of oil, diesel, or other chemicals. Or a potential spill before it has a chance to happen, as on the picture right here as it is arranged around the four drums.

It's one of the most economical ways to contain a spill -- it's fairly inexpensive to purchase, and it can be washed and reused. Just don't drive over it. It may be sturdy -- but not THAT sturdy. (except a special kind that's designed to handle that.

More about Spill Berms

Which Spill Containment Berm Is Right for YOU?

Who needs spill berms? Anyone who is handling and/or storing oil, diesel, other petrochemicals, other chemicals, and other liquids you would want to contain.

Why? Because leaks happen. And so do spills.

And the cool thing about spill berms is that htey're fairly compact and can be stored near where they might be needed. There are smaller versions that can easily be carried around and tucked into a trunk -- ready to be deployed at a moment's notice.

They're cost-effective for several reasons:

1) they're fairly inexpensive to begin with.

2) They can be washed after use and used all over again (and again)

3) They prevent any spil from spreading -- and thereby can save you tons of clean-up expenses.

Which one to get?

There are a number of different berms:

The most exonomical ones are L-bracket berms and the smaller, portable varieties.

Most berms are designed to simply be arranged around the spill area in order to prevent it from spreading.

however, there are also berms that have a bottom -- so they protect the surface where they where placed as well.
