Why does everyone put their car top carrier on backwards????

The manufacturers of car top carriers are designing the car tops such that they add to the drag of the car and waste fuel.

Why is that?

Read the article below and vote whether you agree or not - but do yourself a favor and if you own a car top carrier, see if turning it works better for you...

I know it will feel like putting your left shoe on your right foot for a while and people may look at your car funny, but you get to laugh all the way to the gas pump, because you'll be getting mileage!

What are you doing wrong when installing your car top cargo carriers!

Why do the car top carrier designers design them to be backwards?

Spock Boxes are called spockboxes because they look like the box Admiral Spock was placed in before they shot him into space while Scotty played the bagpipes in his honor in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

Well, most people, actually more like 99.95%, attach their car roof top carriers backwards! Even the car top carrier companies that make these car top carriers promote this inefficient mounting method!

So don't feel too bad about it. But it's aerodynamically backwards!!!

My argument: The nose of an airplane is round, all trailing edges are tapered. The reason for this is - airplanes are designed to be aerodynamic. It saves fuel mostly, but there are other reasons, like rounded leading edges and tapered trailing edges cut wind resistance and noise.

If everyone who owned a car top roof carrier would go with the flow, and mount theirs with the blunt end forward instead of the sharp end think how much petroleum this might save over the course of each year! I know this way of mounting it makes it seem like it is 'cutting into the wind' - but it is NOT!

Rising gas prices are taking a toll on everyone - let's at least do this much for ourselves to increase our own fuel efficiency!
