Why Squeeze Pages are Important? How To Create a Squeeze Page?

If you are reading this lens you have some interest in Internet Marketing and/or Affiliate Marketing and the words "squeeze page", or "lead capture page", or "you need a list" are familiar to you. Prior to any details it is useful to understated the role of Squeeze Pages.

The best definition I have: a squeeze page is a page designed to get names and email addresses, with other words it is a page which contains  an Opt-in form, where a potential customer must fill in.

But you have to realize that:

  • Some people consider that a squeeze page is a fly trap, they think that something will just fly by too close and get stuck

  • Other people who land on your Squeeze Page will enter their names and email addresses into the Opt-in box as they are looking for something very specific, something you advertise

Don't be worry about the first category they aren't to buy anything from you or somebody else. In the second category there are your potential customers. They all will buy from you, NO, but they all have a problem and they need a solution to that problem. This is the beauty, if you can give them the solution they are looking for, you just transform a potential customer in a buyer.

Keep in mind, if a customer is not happy with you, he knows there are thousands of other websites that would love to give him a solution to his problem. This is the bible of on-line marketing, but can be other subjective reasons for a customer to leave you and go some place else. Somebody else can use an ethical bribe like giving away precious bonuses for free. Make a habit to think long about your customer who is visiting your Squeeze page, and think about what you are offering to him - it must be a compelling, helpful, solving his problem and is related with the sale you want to make.

Note:
In 2010, Mobile Marketing is the new buzz and the Squeeze Page technique is extended to accommodate the small screen of your mobile phone. For more info look at Beastmobi software which is part of Mobile Monopoly System. I created 3 lenses so far about Mobile Marketing , so you have a lot of info to start with

When We Need A Squeeze Page

There are two ways to work with an Opt-in Forms:
  • You create a Squeese Page in which you put a Opt-in Form, and as soon a potential customer sign in, you redirect him to a Sale Page
  • You can put an Opt-in Form directly in your Sale Pages, doing so you don't need a Squeeze page
When you sale your own product you are free to use one of the above methods to sell and also to create a list, it really is up to you which one to use.
When you sell an affiliate product, if you send the potential customer directly to the sale page of the author of the product, you maybe get a sale here and there but you don't create a list for yourself, just the author creates a list.

Affiliate products are typical cases in which you have to have a squeeze page in which the Opt-in Form is linked with your autoresponder. As a courteously for your reader, you state that this is a product "presented by Your name". The reader will know that this is an affiliate product, it is not professional to hide this information.

In this case, you create a list from your Squeeze Page, and a author creates a list from the Sale Page.

Do you think, that it is a problem that the customer sign-in twice? Probably you do! But this is not a problem. The people who usually buy on-line, they know that affiliates exists, 80% of them are affiliates themselves for other products, and they don't mind signing 2 times for just a product they really want, as they know the process.
Some people will be annoyed that they have to sign-in twice. YES, please, don't be worry about them, they are people who don't understand the concept of affiliate marketing, and if they don't buy from you, IT IS OK! You don't need this type of customers, these are the people who will unsubscribe from your list anyway.
When they start to sell affiliate or personal products, nobody will buy from them as they aren't on anybody lists, nobody know them, surprise, surprise!

Note:
Took a lot of time for myself to grasp this concept and stop being worry about the people who don't buy from me for one reason or another, and solely concentrate on my loyal customers who are on my list, because whey already bought from me and they are happy about the products, and services I offer.

The beauty of Web 2.0 is the sharing, interacting, you make friends, not enemies, everybody is on everybody else list, and people return favors, but to do that they need to know you.

When it is a great launch, I use to get between 4-12 emails from different marketers for that product. I buy from the one I trust the most, as a courtesy for a marketer I know and respect. I put the name and emails of others in a folder, I have folders by niche.
When I have a product on my own, I go to a specific folder and I ask them if they want to be my affiliates or want to do JV with me for my product. Not all of them respond, but if 20% of them do, and my success is around the corner.

Lets do the math. Let's say I have a list with 500 loyal customers. 20% responded to my request, this means 100 people. If those people, each of them has a list of just 500 people, my request will be email to 100x500 = 50.000 potential customers.

If the conversion is just 1%:
  • If I e-mail to only my 500 list members, I'll get 5 buyers
  • With affiliates and Joint Ventures partners, the email will go to 50.000 people, and 1% means 500 buyers.
You see I generate 5 buyers, my affiliates and JV generate 500 buyers, I have in total 505 buyers. For those 500 buyers I divide the earning between me and them and still what I gain is much, much more then I can generate myself.

This calculation is with the minimum figures possible, I am on the list of a couple of people who has 10.000 -100.000 members.
But how I got on their lists - simple:
  • Over the time I bought some products they advertise,
  • I never unsubscribed from their lists just because I got too many e-mails
  • At this point I have a lot of Affiliate Marketing friends, and 12 folders per 12 niches I am interested in
To get traffic I don't need to go and make noise in 100 forums, or write 500 articles in ezine.
My IM friends help me a lot and I help them when they need me, and yes I use Social Media but in a decent amount as the day has just 24 hours, I don't want to spread to thin all over on the Internet and end up not having enough time for new projects.

The single places where I spend more time are Squidoo lenses and the Blogs: I write articles on my Blogs, comment on others, and follow carefully just my niches.

Squeeze Page Model

Every Squeeze Page contains the same parts and is focus on a SINGLE goal - getting the visitor to become a subscriber or buyer.

These parts are as follows:
  • A compiling Title
  • A brief or lengthy introduction
  • A bulleted list of benefits
  • A picture of the product (eCover)
  • An opt-in form with a call to action
  • Optional audio or video
  • A signature of the list owner (sometime a picture as well)

There are a lot of variation, you must determining which model will work best for you, this can be done only through testing.

I don't want to give you a recipe for this, you have to test and come with your best version of Squeeze Page.

If there is anything you absolutely must take away from an introduction to Squeeze Pages, it is that you cannot create a Squeeze Page that isn't focus to your product.

With other words, don't put elements which will distract the reader and have nothing to do with your product.

I give you some examples of Squeeze Pages Templates, they usually fall in 3 category:
  • You tell nothing, except you offer a free report
  • You tell the benefits of your product in a bulleted list
  • Video Squeeze Pages

The general wisdom is the short Squeeze Pages are very effective, because they are focus. We call them about the fold, as they fit on a screen and the reader doesn't need to scroll.

You tell nothing, except you offer a free report

The first 2 are typical Squeeze pages in which you put a title, put the Opt-in Form in the rectangle, use some graphics but don't over do it, and say nothing more that you offer a FREE Report. You can add other elements but is good to remain about the fold.
If you want to be creative and unique, look at 3rd example in this category, actually this is the one I like the most.

You tell the benefits of your product in a bulleted list

In first 2 template you need to put Title, a subtitle which explains the product in a sentence, a buleted list with benefits, an audio "listen to this" button, an Opt-in Form, and this is it.
The 3rd is a squeeze page created by James Grantstaff, it is a very affective one, it has all the about elements.
The 4th example is a squeeze page to get in a membership site, very simple, it has just a title, benefits and Opt-in Form

Video Squeeze Pages

In the first template you put the video in the black rectangle and on opt-in Form in the yellow for a free report, same pattern just different graphics in the second example.

The Elements Of A Squeeze Page

That Is Important And What Is Not

create your listMake your Squeeze Page easy to read:
  • Keep everything about the fold
  • Write on Black, and have a readable contrast with the background if you use one
  • Be simple, consistent, and treat your customers with respect
  • The Opt-in Form must be easily visible, and have a good call for action (change the submit verbiage which is a default)
  • You can use audio, and video but still keep the entire Squeeze Page about the fold
Squeeze Page Headline
Squeeze Page Headline is the first thing the visitor sees, and he has 7-10 seconds to make a decision to continue or go away.
Your Headline must convince the visitor to keep going reading.
You must offer a solution for a problem. Make a headline to stand out using alternate color, bigger font, center.

Use bullets to show the benefits of the product you promote (not the features). It is more readable to use bullets.

It is great to have eye catching graphics and look professional but the graphics don't sell your product, the headline and the benefits will do it!

FAQ About Squeeze Pages

side by side squeeze page1. Do I need a Template for my Squeeze Pages

In is not mandatory, but it is recommended to use an eye catching template. In the same time an amateurish design will work well if your "selling" elements of your Squeeze Pages are well written, see previous module

2. Where I can find FREE templates?

Just put "Free Squeeze Pages" in Google search box, and you will get a long list of offers. You are not going to be unique using them but you can use some for the beginning. To be unique you have to use your design or a paid professional design.

On 23rd Nov. Alex Crabtree and myself launch our own eBook "WordPress MU". It is a good example to look it over. We create our design: header, footer, all the launch pages have same pattern, we create our eCovers, and advertising elements. And we use a great template for our eBook.

You can use a service I have for graphics at a very convenient price, I create eCovers for digital products, but on request I create other graphics as well, read the following lens:
Michey's eCovers

3. As an Affiliate, when I need to use a Squeeze Pages, and which are the other elements I can change.

You always need to have your own Squeeze Page in your own domain to collect names and emails for your own list. In general, when the visitor click submit button on your Opt-in Form in your Squeeze Page, you redirect the visitor to the sale page of the author.

But if you bought other types of right for the product you advertize, you read carefuly the licence, if it stated that you can change graphics, edit text, put your name on it, then you have to create:
1) Your own graphics
2) Your own Sale Page
3) Your own version of the product, with your own touch: links, additions, twist, and present the product as yours - this is for Private Label Rights
4) You practically create a new product, and you have to decide if you just sale the product, or you add rights to your product at a higher cost
5) You have to decide that you want to have affiliates and JV partners

Did you saw Sale Pages in which the author offer more options for visitors? Something like:
1) For personal use only, the cost is: xxx
2) With Master Resale Right, the cost is xxx + yyy ( this is a little higher then personal use only)
3) Private Label Rights, the cost is xxx + zzz ( this will be the highest price)

This is what I am talking about! In this case READ THE LICENSE!

4. Is it ethical the state the fact that I am an Affiliate for a specific product?

YES, it is, you will see a lot of Squeeze Pages in which the person said "Presented by" or "From the desk of John Smith", and if you go further on sale page you will see that the author is not John Smith. This activity must be on the open and it is ethical.

5. How much the new FTC rules will influence the Affiliate Marketing?

Well, this is a subject in itself, hard to answer in a FAQ, I'll keep informed my readers, and write a lot about it in future.

At this point I tell you to keep going and be careful not to give testimonials if you are didn't bought that product.
When you buy something always keep some info to be able to prove that you are a user of that product.

6. How much the new FTC rules will influence the Squeeze Pages?

The Squeeze Pages will remain as a part of Affiliate practices, as long you have the proper discloser to tell people that you are an affiliate and the product is an affiliation.

7. There are services I can buy to make my life easier and less time consuming with the creation of a professional looking Squeeze Pages

YES, the service I highly recomanded is:
Squeeze Page Ver. 3
YES I am an Compensated Affiliate.

This is a membership site which will let you use their software to create your own Squeeze Pages, give you tutorials, offer to host the squeeze pages but you can use your host as well, offer you to be an affiliate for them.

Note:
Sorry to say but you cannot play the affiliate game, if you aren't a true affiliate yourself.
