Michey's Challenge - Income Goal on Squidoo

I am looking for a better 2009, and an old idea is coming back to me - Multiple Streams of Income. A couple of years ago all Internet marketers was consumed with MSOI, and as usually in business, new ideas replace the old ones, and this is life.
Now Web 2.0 is the new game in town, socializing, participating, and networking are the aim of what we call the new generation of Websites. In essence we didn't replace the idea of creating Multiple Streams of Income, we just accept the idea of interaction and we have new tools, new platforms, and new ways of communicating, shearing and producing traffic.
Five years ago we have created static Websites, eBooks, eCourses, and we still do. Now we create: Squidoo lenses, HubPages, Blogs, Video Sites and so on, with the same purpose as 5 years ago - to produce more income. The components of Web 2.0 don't replace the static Digital Products, but add to them new products on new platforms, and the most important, new way to produce traffic.

Following this trend, it is natural to consider Squidoo lenses as a new Stream of Income, and it is an excellent idea for all the 2009 troubles. Never cross my mind that a healthy company as Microsoft will lay off 5000 of people. If we got that far, we have to roll our sleeves and do whatever it takes to survive and make a difference.

I took Mark's challenge on 29th Dec 08.

This is Mark's lens, he had a brilliant idea, and a lot of people start to follow him:

$50 a day with Squidoo, learn and earn.

He is documenting the progress daily and all his work is a good example for all of us. I'll document mine as well.

My Income Goal:
"I want to make $30.00 a day on my Squidoo lenses until March 30th".

The first 2 days I thought about it, and made a plan.
I'll keep it simple:

I create a vision for this project. Without a vision, I firmly believe that my project won't succeed. A vision is the big picture of where I want to go. I need to have a vision, otherwise I won't be motivated, and I won't have a clear direction for my project. This is valid for any person and any project: you must start with a vision and if you lose sight of your vision, you lose hope, and if you lose hope, the project is game over
Within the vision I create goals; a goal is a specific milestone that helps me get closer to my vision/project. The requirements for goals are:
- they should be specific, I mean measurable,
- they should be serious, but attainable,
- they should have a deadline. For this specific project the realistic deadlines are hard to determine, and if I won't be in time I'll keep going anyway
And finally I create a plan of actions to accomplish my goals

This lens will be my day-by-day log of actions:

If I succeed will be an example to follow
If I fail this will be a written material to read, think about it, apply corrections to it and try again. To fail is not an option

In addition to this lens, I'll add more lenses experimenting: a big competition or a tiny niche, just to see and measure the reaction of readers.

When the number of lenses are big enough I'll expose the "networking" plan.

Hi! I was asked if being part of a different challenge (JJJ),isn't this a distraction from this challenge?
My answer is YES and NO.
Yes as I don't gave time to update daily this challenge.
No as the other challenge encourage me to create a lot of lenses. Actually I need to create more lenses, and this is a organized way to do so.

Researching some successful Squids I find out that they:

Have big volume (of lenses)
Work diligently to produce traffic with Social Media
Mix Squidoo experience with other avenues like: affiliate marketing, blogging and so on.

Since last post here,

It looks as I am out of the picture for a while, but in reality I was so busy I couldn't post.
I make my case and you will be the judge.

Starting 1st May I signed for JJJ challenge (Jolly Judicious Jetsetters) as well, and I created 6 lenses:

This is definitely a lot of work, in a way is part of this challenge as I need more lenses, and was a learning curve which helps.

First I took a break of 2 weeks to solve some Info. overload, I explained in my Blog.

I update Beginners Affiliate Profit lens. This is a lens which is doing well now, I think this is the reflection on our doom and gloom economy in which everybody want to add new streams of income

I made efforts to drive more traffic:
Start using Commision Junction, Shareasale, ClickBooth, and Azoogle Ads
Post new lenses on Squoogle, IsleOfSquid, Squidom
Continue to work on membership site, I bought a very good package and I want to learn to do it myself, but it is time consuming, a lot to learn and apply. Outsourcing is an option, but I want to learn to do it myself, even though it will take more time to build my first paid membership site. After that will be eraser for the second one.

Note: Because I am doing 3 projects at a time, I have rescheduled my list to do daily plan.
For a while (probably next 2 weeks) I'll work only 2 hours per day on squidoo and twitter, 5 hours per day for membership site, 2-3 hours per day maintenance. After I'll finish project 2 and 3, I'll do just Squidoo, twitter, and HubPage all day long.

This has been an unusual day on my work pattern. Half a day I have family problems to solve, the second half a day...

I know and work with squidutils up till now, but I never had enough time to look all over on the site and use it to its fullness.
Today I want to learn about a trick to create tables on lenses, and I spend quality time looking to all the functionality of this site can offer for a lensmaster.

It is incredible powerful - thefluffanutta thanks a lot! I fill like I was living under the rock up till now!

It is 11:00 PM, I have to stop now, but I learn a great deal of tricks, and I'll start tomorrow to apply them.

I verified the cross reference between all my lenses/blogs/websites
I did some maintenance on my group
I finished to read:
- Accelerate on Twitter
- Viral Copy - Trading Words for Traffic (both are excellent e-Books)
Worked for affiliate advertising, 4 new digital products must go public tomorrow, I still need 2-3 hours to work on them
The membership site is shaping but today the progress was so little
The work on traffic is still minimal, this is the part I have to put more effort

I am still frustrated with the the way my schedule is, I really struggle with it, I don't have a good balance between creating new and maintenance to old staff, what can I say, the day has only 24 hours from which I can work 6-7 the most.

Yesterday I had a flu; I tried to work, but I did only easy staff: research, add tags, comments, join groups and I create a short Jan. Newsletter on my blog

First income of $11.90 arrived yesterday from an affiliate. Actually I advertised a free report, but somebody bought the OTO attached to it. And $21.24 arrives today from PBM. It is not a lot of money but is moving in the right direction, I am happy about it.

In the last 2 days:

I did a lot of research because I want to replace Social Marker with other package for automating the submission to Social Bookmarking sites
I decided to use Ping.fm I work with it and I think it is a good tool
Bought Eric's tool "Push Button Marketer", l loaded and the learning process started

Hi! I don't want to react based on polls as politicians, I have a set back in ranking now. It is OK, I want to take some time to LEARN NEW THINGS, which soon will be instrumental to my progress and my success: PBM, Ping.fm, list more affiliate products, and more useful lenses, try more types of Stores. It is an ambition schedule and program, and I have to keep my focus on my goal.

I have thought since yesterday that I need to know more about Ning Platform.
I start today doing some work for my challenge, and I spent half a day reading about Ning Social Network. it was so enjoyable!

I add an RSS module for Affiliate Marketing on Clickbank (When I can afford a break, I'll explain why I pay so much attention to Affiliate Marketing)
Add this lens and other 2-3 lenses in more groups (read note 1)
Spend quality time reading Giant Squid Mentor Lens, actually I was looking for something and I was hooked on reading, it really is a helpful lens)

Note 1: I made the mistake of thinking that submitting in groups is one time action. I was wrong, the number of groups are growing as mushrooms after the rain, we have to come back after 2-3 month and reconsider groups, see what is new, and keep going applying. I had the surprise that 2-3 groups reject my lens, I don't take personal; intelligent people agree to disagree from time to time, I just want to tell you that rejections are possible and you have to keep going, no hard feeling what so ever.

Note 2: Reading about Ning Platform open my eyes, and completely change my mind about how to create a personal Social Network on Ning, I'll elaborate more in a blog-post in 1-2 days. I worked yesterday on a Ning social network, I'll keep it, but now, as we speak I am working on a new Ning Social Network and try to apply what I learn today. Keep an eye, I'll keep you post it.

Jan. 3rd 2009 Sorry, I have had a miserably day. I had a damaged hard drive, I spent a lot of time trying to save how much I can, (I have some unreadable parts on the drive).
I start setting up a new system I have but not use it yet. Lot of software to install, upload saved folders, you name it!
I am partially functioning now, but I lost a lot of time and functionality from my old system. I am not a happy camper.

I like social marker because contains 48 sites, and after you fill in the info in the first one the info is propagated by the system to the next one. After the one time effort to register to all of them (this part is time consuming), you can spend only 15-20 min per day to post something in all 48 sites.

Ok! The new lens is dedicated to help beginners to start Affiliate Marketing and understand the requirements, for this new business. Now I am ready to let you in:

I start my day submitting this lens to 16 Groups:

7 groups from "Squidoo Tips" category, this is the category of this lens
Other 9 groups from "SEO Affiliate Marketing" category because to be a winner I must drive a lot of traffic to lenses and work with right Affiliate Marketing projects

Note 1: This is important, I noticed from my other lenses that is good to publish the lenses in groups that are part of more then one category. The categories are not 100% disjoint, and good targeted traffic can come from other category that are just related with lens category. But don't Spam.

I added an Amazon module about driving traffic books

I updated the module info for this day 12/30/08.

Note 3: This is a game I'll play all the time. I have a link from blog to the lens, and a link from lens to the blog. Without to abuse it, is good for the traffic to close a cycle. Now we have just 2 elements and look trivial but I'll build more elements for the network in the future, and what I am doing will start to make sense.

Organize again, create first procedure to automate the process of promoting.

You heard me talking about having a vision, goals, a daily detailed plan.
I am a strong believer that organizing well a complex work can make us more productive.

It is not an arrogance of any kind, it is about how we:

Organize our work to be efficient
Minimize time for important tasks which are time consuming
Be sure we don't forget anything of importance

One of the slogans of Internet marketing is: Take massive action and stick to it.
Well this is where we fail and it is NOT the lack of knowledge, it is the lack of organizing well to accomplish more.

I definitely want to report daily my progress and I'll continue to do so, but I want to organize my work differently.

What is repeating daily must be organized in a procedure. Doing so I discipline myself to execute the entire procedure daily.

Driving traffic actions are repeating them self daily. I'll list the driving traffic actions in next box just one time and I'll refer to it with a generic name of Shock-and-Awe-Traffic.

Daily Promotions:
When I create or enhance my Lenses, and blogs-posts:
1) Submit to Search Engines:
Google (you can click on link to see the URL),
MSN ,
Yahoo
2) Publish and Ping with squidutils or
with Ping o matic
3) To submit to Social Bookmarking and Networking I decided to use:
Ping.fm and
Push Button Marketer (this is new software, to get it click on the link)

Note: I use only FREE sites to submit or ping, with the exception of Push Button marketer which is one time resonable buy, but this new software is produsing so much functionality, it is well worth the price. More info click now.

By-Weekly Promotions
1) Publish articles in Ezine
2) Publish or moderate in Forums, including SquidoU, www.SquidooMarketing.ning.com or any other ...ning.com I have or sign-in in this niche
3) Post in my blogs at least 2 times per week
4) Comment in "dofollow" blogs and drop a URL in comments
5) Published articles from blogs on carnivals

My frustrations:
1) The days in which I just update, and enhance lenses I don't have time constrains, but in the days in which I create new lenses I don't have time left for nothing else. And by the way I have to create more lenses!

2) I have to cut some other activities in my life, honestly, I don't know what to get ride of.

3) I love FREE Traffic with Web 2.0, but it is time consuming, I have to find ways to automate this process. I did it, the solution is Push Button Marketer

4) This is a good balance between creating, promoting, and have a life

The Relationship Between Affiliate Marketing And Squidoo

I promise that I tell you why I am so fond of using Affiliate Marketing in Squidoo.

You already know that almost everybody under the sun will tell the newbies that Affiliate Marketing is the Holy Grail, some will offer to teach you "everything", but, and this is e serious "but", very few "experts" will tell you the truth upfront.

The truth of the matter is:
The affiliate URLs are prohibited in a lot of places.

You cannot use an affiliate URL:

In majority of Forums
In majority of Ezine Article
In blogs except if you use your own domain for WordPress
If you put a URL in a comment is consider spam in majority of blogs
Google PPC, if you dare to promote an Affiliate product with an affiliate link, you have to buy a domain for it or Google will wipe out your ranking in the blink of the eye

Now you know the good, the bad and the ugly!
If you are a newbie you will ask yourself where you can use an Affiliate URL.
The correct answer is:

in our beloved SQUIDOO lenses. or
in your own websites or
blogs on your domain or
review Blogs (the word review must be in the name of the blog)

Squidoo is one of few places where you are allow to use affiliate URLs, and you are encouraged to use them, no restrictions what so ever.

I encourage you to use it as well, but without a mistake I did when I started to create Squidoo lenses. Don't put all the affiliate products in just one lens, create a separate lens for each product you promote.

This is an important detail to know, as beginners can start right away to promote affiliate products until they start producing their own products.
