Nigel was born December 28th 1956 in Brighton, England. He is a violinist, a violist and conductor.Nigel Kennedy is classical not only in his music, but in who he is and how he expresses himself. He has been responsible for influencing many rock and roll musicians to learn violin, because of who he his and his style!
Nigel's concerts at times are like a rock concert. He is an incredible classical violinist and conductor who became the best at what he does. But, he wanted to express himself in his own style, and surprised the audiences all over the world when he played with The Who, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd to name a few.
Nigel was Yehudi Menuhin's most famous child protégé, studying first at the Menuhin School. Yehudi paid all of the school fees for Nigel's education at the school. Nigel than moved on to New York to study under Dorothy DeLay at the Juilliard School of Music.
Nigel more than proved that he is the greatest classical violinist in the world and played for the finest music cultural groups of people. Even though he won the approval of refined audiences, he just wanted to be himself; and the refined ones made their choice.

When Nigel Kennedy appears on stage he looks more like a punk rocker than a classical violin virtuoso. Kennedy's technical finesse when he plays violin causes audiences to be amazed, because he is a musician of the highest caliber.
Nigel's first recording was Elgar's Violin Concerto which was voted 1985 Record of the Year by Gramophone magazine and was awarded Best Classical Album of the Year at the BPI Awards.
Nigel has a unconventional approach to playing music that is a highly individualized style, which is favored by an eclectic musical background. Thank God, he is inspired by jazz and rock, and his classical technique is spontaneous. Nigel also enhances his music with his improvisations that he has mastered well.
Nigel's second Vivaldi volume with the Berliner Philharmoniker won the German Echo Award for Best Performance of 18th Century music. Also, the supreme Austrian classical award The Amadeus Prize for Best Instrumental Recording of 2005. - Nigel has also recorded concertos by Berg, Brahms, Bruch, Mendelssohn, Sibelius, Beethoven and Walton.
