Squidmas, a holiday celebration

Celebrating Squidmas

Holidays are indeed a special time of the year and amongst other reasons, it brings families together and creates special memories. Squidoo is no different with a vast community of Squids around the world. So to help celebrate the festivities, I dedicate this holiday story to all of the staff and Lensmasters at Squidoo for their help, understanding, patience and most of all their warmth and camaraderie throughout the year.

Happy Holidays!

Squidmas in Squidville

Like most places, Squidville celebrates one of their biggest holidays in winter at the end of the year. Squidmas is a time for everyone to come together, and it encompasses all traditions, faiths and beliefs. It's a time to set aside differences, and open their hearts to compassion and understanding while thinking of others instead of oneself. For an all too brief moment, the inhabitants of Squidville become one, and it's known as the "Squidmas Miracle"

The wish lists are finished and off in the mail. Mom has asked for some new modules, and of course Dad wants new Lensmaster Tools! The Squiddies are hoping for new monster toys and more purple stars and the entire household is rife with their anticipation. In the Squidville family household, one tradition is to tell the story of Squidmas Eve and you've been invited to pull up a chair, and listen.

I hope you enjoy....

The Night Before Squidmas...

by Steve Thompson, December 2010

T'was the night before Squidmas, and all through the town,
not a squidizen had stirred since the sun had gone down.
The squiddies were sleeping upstairs in their beds,
with dreams of good monsters popping up in their heads.

The tentasocks were hung by the old Squidmas Reef,
with hopes that Saint Squickolas fulfills their belief.
With me in my squidcap and Ma with her pens,
we just got prepared for a last minute lens.

When all of a sudden, a noise pierced the air,
I jumped to my tentacles with nary a care.
Off to the window I went with great speed,
ripped open the curtains and looked without heed.

The moon over Squidville was brighter than snow,
and gave quite a shine to the objects below.
When what to my enormous blue eye did appear,
but a sleigh packed with presents and a red nosed squindeer.

The white bearded driver was nimble and quick,
so I knew right away that it must be Saint Squick.
With purpose and ease his team soared into flight,
as he shouted their names in the darkness of night

"Now Squasher! now Squancer! now Sqrancer and Squixen!
On Sqomet! on Squpid! on Sqonder and Squitzen!
To the top of the fence and then over the wall,
whoosh away, whoosh away, whoosh away all!"

So up to the top of the house they arose
intact with the sleigh full of modules and prose.
With the spirited old squid at the helm of his craft,
I soon heard the pawing of hooves fore and aft.

As I turned from the window releasing a sigh,
St Squickolas appeared right in front of my eye.
His outfit was red with white fur all around,
his tentacles gloved and a large belt of brown.

He carried a sack full of toys and rewards,
stars that were purple and points by the hordes.
His eye had a twinkle with cheeks oh so rosy,
His beard like the snow yet appearing so cozy.

His round little belly displayed quite a sight,
that jumped when he laughed like a lens overnight.
In spite of his stature and seeming compliant,
I found him to be, amongst squids, quite a giant.

A wink of the eye and a nod of his head,
was all that I needed, and nothing was said.
He stuck to his task as he wandered about,
and filling our tentasocks with a holiday payout.

The levels go up and more trophies abound,
and soon all the Squidville achievements are crowned.
Then raising a tentacle close to his beard,
gave a quick blink and then disappeared.

He hopped on his sleigh and called out to his team
and they quickly escaped in a holiday theme.
But I heard him proclaim speeding off like a squall,
"Peace in Squidville tonight and Happy Squidmas to All"!

Thanks for coming....
