The Next Wave Of The Internet Could Be Local Bartering Groups and Sites

There are some items that I would barter with in my local Fargo, North Dakota area with people I don't know. Its done with friends and family all the time. With hyper-inflation and less money in people's pockets, bartering is on the rise. A neighbor wants or needs something and someone else has it, but in turn that person wants or needs something as well. Then they barter and if a deal is reached, an exchange of goods is made. Its done locally all the time. Are you interested in starting a Squidoo Bartering Group in your hometown or to make lenses with items that you would like to trade or barter on? If enough Squidoo Members like the idea of Bartering, we could create a new wave on the internet through Squidoo. Bartering Groups and Lenses would be very useful and fun in the Squidoo Community and in our own local communities. The word would get around if we make it something practical, pleasurable, and profitable for others. This lens is to convey an idea of bartering in local communities where one man's trash is another man's treasure.  ~ Your input is appreciated!

I Live In Fargo, North Dakota

The economy in North Dakota is doing great but super-inflation is getting worse.

Inflation is everywhere and many people are just trying to make ends meet, like me.

I was talking to lensmaster BertBert who said, "I believe the next wave of the internet will be bartering sites." I agree!!!

I believe we can have Squidoo Bartering Groups and Lenses that would be very popular in a cooperative effort. We can all find a necklace or wallet or whatever that we don't use, but someone else would if they had it. = Let's make a deal!

Collective conscienceness is a very powerful tool that we can use. We have some great group-masters and lensmasters on Squidoo that could really add a lot to this idea. I may start a Squidoo Bartering Group myself but I need more ideas on How-To. I believe that 'we' could really make this work!

Have you ever bartered before? Bartering is a lot of fun and it is rewarding!
I'm guessing it wouldn't be a good idea to barter with someone you don't know at all who lives half way around the world. Squidoo members get to know each other though so that would be different.

A Squidoo Bartering POLL

I would really appreciate your answer to the question!!! Thanks!

The idea of having Bartering Groups is that we would need to be a member of the Squidoo-COOP or Group in order to barter with other members. On individual lenses the lensmaster could barter with people in their local community comfortably without them being a member of Squidoo. ~ I would love more in-put on that!

Lenses and Groups already get linked together for more updated content, but how often is the content updated on the lenses or groups?

The next wave of the internet could be Bartering Sites ~ What do you think?
I can think of lots of goods and services that I could put on a bartering site.
It would be very interesting to see what other people have to barter with.

Squidoo lenses are about content and updated content really increases lens-rank. With each bartering deal made that item would be removed from a lens and the lens would then be updated with a new item or service.

Now, this isn't a story of true bartering, but it's about taking advantage of a free offer. I received a Kohl's gift card for $10 on any pruchase with no restrictions--it was a bulk mailing incentive to spend in the store. I don't often go there, but Al needed to go to Gander Mt. for a scope and he suggested I take the card along as the stores are fairly close to each other. Well, I knew exactly what I would get--my annual supply of new black socks and that's just what I did. 3-packs of the socks I wanted were 1/2 off, I got 2 packs for the $10 card and walked out with a smile and all my cash in pocket! I felt even better when I looked at the receipt and it said I actually save $20! I have never, ever paid the full price on socks. Al was a little surprised that I really didn't care to shop around--doing that just makes you want things you don't need. I just did not need one other thing there.

That's a nice savings on the socks you wanted, good for you.
Being thrifty does pay and great deals do come along once in a while.
Long as we can walk away with a well deserved smile of satisfaction!

That's an interesting idea about swapping Squidoo lenses Kiwi. There are a lot of options with this idea. Its a good idea for a new lens for any of us. I have lenses that I would swap, been thinking about deleting one that I haven't had time to re-do. Thanks for contributing!

I wouldn't mind doing a "lens swap" even with other lensmasters. I know I have a few old ones that I would put on the table. There's a lot of possibilities with this!

Rinchen, thanks for stopping by. This is something that I need to find time for. Yes, its a great idea ... but I'm hoping someone else thinks so too and gets the ball rolling on Squidoo with a forum and a group. I just became a Squid Angel and have my assignments to do each day being a blessing to others. I'm enjoying it very much!

    Best wishes to everyone!

Sue I'm wondering what bartering ideas you have come up with. Al's sister and I have just bartered plants--I got huge speedwell's and lillies for fushia's. Now the fusia's need to be taken in for the winter but the lillies and speedwells just need to be cut back. I like an easy care garden, which reminds me I better go out an water plants.

I visited a teacher friend this past week and was so impressed of how she and her husband have obtained so many things by the barter method among other artisian friends, shich is common among artistic crowd. Also, last year they needed to re-do a bedroom floor and a friend really liked a love seat of theirs and he had some cork flooring that he had salvaged at his job due to insurance damage to the pack. They did an even trade and everyone is happy. Cherly had priced the flooring at $1200.00 and they had gotten the love seat for under $100.00--nice deal![in reply to Tipi]

Tipi, I was thinking about having villages as groups and or lenses. Then I thought about Tribes instead. What tribe do you belong to or sub-culture, niche? - Art, poetry, electronics, kites, free-lance writing, or the tipi tribe. Introductions and mission statements. Sub-culture, because it is below-radar. Just some ideas to throw your way for bartering. Your art work would be good as a tribal theme. I have many thoughts, more on that later. - bert

Oh, how true that is Shelly! I'm hoping to find more time to invest in the idea of Squidoo Bartering. I may have to put off some other things just to get to this. I know that its something that its a great idea and can be big with the right direction. Any ideas on the topic are welcome. ~ Its not a me thing, its a 'we thing', and if I can help others to prosper in this I would have my reward.
