We always knew Uhura was a strong woman, but in the movie we got to see her feistiness from the beginning. But she always looked good. In the new movie she looks as stunning as ever in her red dress.

I recently saw an interview with Nichelle Nichols (the original Lt. Nyota Uhura). She explained the meaning of her name. Uhuru is Swahili for 'freedom' - they made it a little easier to say by changing it to Uhura. Only later did they add a first name - Nyota meaning 'Star'. A beautiful, powerful name for a beautiful, powerful woman.
