May The Force Be With You

The original idea of this epic space franchise known as Star Wars was conceived by George Lucas with a memorable soundtrack by John Williams and London Symphony Orchestra. The soundtrack was created in new bigger than life dolby sound at the height of the vinyl record. The original motion picture Star Wars was released on May 25, 1977 by 20th Century Fox, which soon became a global pop culture phenomenon, that spawned two immediate sequels that were released in three-year intervals. Sixteen years after the release of the trilogy's final film Return of the Jedi, came the first in a new prequel trilogy of films which again were released in three-year intervals, with the final film released in 2005. As a result the original Star Wars trilogy were renamed (or sub-titled) as Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope -- Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back -- Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi with the new prequels being Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace -- Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones -- Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith .

The first film was simply titled Star Wars, but later had the subtitle Episode IV: A New Hope added to distinguish it from its sequels and prequels. The action packed sci-fi space adventure takes place in a the future, in a fictional galaxy, far far away, where many species of alien creatures often humanoid co-mingle humans and with robotic droids which are generally built to serve their owners specific needs. Space travel is commonplace, and many planets in this galaxy are members of a Galactic Republic, later reorganized as the Galactic Empire .

The movie tells the story of a plot by a group of freedom fighters known as the Rebel Alliance to destroy the flagship space station / weapon of the oppressive Galactic Empire. The plot follows the tale of a farm boy Luke Skywalker who is suddenly thrust into the role of hero when he inadvertently acquires the robots carrying the schematic plans of the space station "Deathstar". He must accompany retired military general and rebel sympathizer Obi-Wan "Ben" Kenobi on a mission to rescue the owner of the robots, rebel leader Princess Leia Organa, and deliver the plans to the rebels' secret base, and help destroy the space station before it reaches and destroys the rebel base.

One of the prominent elements of Star Wars is The Force, which is an omnipresent form of energy which can be harnessed by those with that ability. It is described in the first produced film as "an energy field created by all living things that surrounds us, penetrates us, and binds the galaxy together." The Force allows users to perform a variety of supernatural feats such as telekinesis, clairvoyance, precognition, and mind control and also can amplify certain physical traits, such as speed and reflexes; these abilities can vary from user to user and can be improved through training. While the Force can be used for good, it has a dark side that, when pursued, imbues users with hatred, aggression, and malevolence. The six films feature the Jedi, who use the Force for good, and the Sith, who use the dark side for evil in an attempt to take over the galaxy. In the Expanded Universe many dark side users are Dark Jedi rather than Sith, mainly because of the Rule of Two.

Film Music and Soundtracks
Film Music works in conjunction with dialogue and image to establish the mood and tone of a movie; classical, jazz, electronic -- regardless of genre, any material composed or scored expressly for use in a motion picture can be defined as film music. A soundtrack album, on the other hand, is not necessarily film music, as many of the songs that make up the record, as with those for American Graffiti, FM, Pulp Fiction, etc. were not originally intended for use in the movie, and other times as in Batman Forever don't even appear in the actual feature at all. Soundtracks contain music featured in movies and television soundtracks. Usually, these include excerpts of the score and incidental music, plus songs featured in the films or programs. soundtracks tended to play like various artists albums, no matter if it stuck music strictly in the film or music inspired by it.

Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (originally released as Return of the Jedi) is a 1983 space opera film directed by Richard Marquand and written by George Lucas and Lawrence Kasdan. It is the third film released in the Star Wars saga, and the sixth and final in terms of internal chronology. It is also the first film to use THX technology

The film is set some time after Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back . Luke Skywalker and members of the Rebel Alliance travel to Tatooine to rescue their friend Han Solo from Jabba the Hutt. Meanwhile, the Galactic Empire is planning to crush the Rebel Alliance with a second Death Star while the Rebel fleet simultaneously prepares to launch a full-scale attack on this new space station. Luke confronts his father, Darth Vader, in a climactic duel before the evil Emperor Palpatine.

The original trilogy depicts Darth Vader as a fearsome cyborg and Sith Lordwho serves at the right hand of Emperor Palpatine, leading the brutal Galactic Empire in oppressing the galaxy and hunting down the Rebel Alliance. The prequel trilogy depicts him as a slave boy who becomes a heroic Jedi Knight and hero of the Clone Wars. He then falls to the "dark side" of the mystical Force after Palpatine manipulates him into betraying the Jedi and destroying the Galactic Republic. In Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, the series' final chronological installment, Vader redeems himself by helping to destroy the Empire, sacrificing himself in the process.

The record album was a hit too reaching Gold Record status. The Story of Star Wars was also released on cassette, 8-track tape, and even 4-track reel-to-reel audio tape.

For the most part records are pressed on black vinyl. The coloring material used to blacken the transparent PVC plastic mix is carbon black, which is the generic name for the finely divided carbon particles produced by the incomplete burning of a mineral oil based hydrocarbon. Carbon black increases the strength of the disc and renders it opaque. Polystyrene is often used for 7" records. Some records are pressed on colored vinyl or with paper pictures embedded in them known as "picture discs". These discs can become collectors' items in some cases. Certain 45-rpm RCA, RCA Victor or RCA Red Seal used red translucent vinyl for extra "Red Seal" effect. During the 1980s there was a trend for releasing singles on colored vinyl sometimes with large inserts that could be used as posters. This trend has been revived recently and has succeeded in keeping 7" singles a viable format.

Protect Your Valuable Vinyl Phonograph Records

Cleanliness is absolutely mandatory if the optimum sound capability of the vinyl record is to be realized. A clean record will not only sound better, but last longer. It has long been proven that repeated playing of dirty phonograph records can cause permanent damage to the vinyl. Preservation of your valuable or irreplaceable records requires careful cleaning. Not to mention that stylus wear is greatly accelerated by playing dirty records, and with high price of cartridges these days, playing dirty records can lead to significant and unneeded expense.
