Starblazers- The Golden Age of Anime Begins
Considered by some to be the start of "The Golden Age of Anime", StarBlazers was part of a series of new space operas that grew increasingly popular.
The first two seasons (whose DVD releases are titled "The Quest for Iscandar" and "The Comet Empire") were broadcast in 1979 and 1980. I was in eighth grade at the time and, on the days it was broadcast, was always in a rush to get home from school.
By the time the third season was released, the original voice actors had moved on and, being non-union, were unable to be reached via the American production company. The third season (released as "The Bolar Wars") played to a small test market and was not widely seen until its release on video and DVD. It remains less popular than the first two seasons.
Many of the original English voice actors have since been tracked down and interviewed for the Star Blazers DVD releases.

A Brief Introduction to "Starblazers"
Star Blazers is an American animated television series adaptation of the Japanese anime series, . Star Blazers was first broadcast in the United States in 1979. Significantly, it was the first popular English-translated anime that had an over-arching plot and storyline that required the episodes to be shown in order. It dealt with somewhat more mature themes than other productions aimed at the same target audience at the time. As a result, it paved the way for future arc-based, plot-driven anime translations.

- I was 16 years old when it appeared on NY tv. I was devestated when they canceled the show in the second season, with only a few episodes left to go. How stupid is that.
I would love to buy it on video but it is too expensive for me right now...but someday.
Also cool was Macross (known here as Robotech).
Great Tribute lens. Do you know why Queen Starsha gave Earth the device to save the planet?
Because years before, the main characters brother had crashed their and the Queen had fallen in love with him, but it wasn't revealed until almost the end.

- Oh, that brings back memories. :)
I was always disappointed there were only two seasons.
The whole concept of converting a sea vessel for interstellar travel seems so unrealistic today, but as a kid, it was the coolest idea ever!
