Here's how to tell if this is the business for you:

  1. You love to cook. Liking it isn't enough, you have to be passionate about it

  2. You're good at cooking. Loving to cook isn't enough. To make your clients happy, you have to be able to cook tasty dishes

  3. You're a diverse cook. Different clients have different tastes. You need to be able to cook different things

  4. You can cook quickly. This isn't a must but it certainly helps. Catering opportunities come quickly and rapidly. People wait until the last minute. Being able to cook something up fast will ensure you make the most of your business

Things To Think About When Starting A Catering Business

Here are some things to consider before starting a daycare:

  1. How to equip your own kitchen or rent one

  2. How to set up your pantry

  3. How to get a steady stream of high paying clients

  4. How to get business insurance

  5. How to get the necessary permits to start a catering business

  6. How to hire help

  7. And many more

To learn these things you can do 1 of 2 things:

  1. Learn them by yourself, either by working for someone else's catering service, or do the necessary research. This will take days and involves some risk of forgetting something important. However, it can be done.

  2. Use one of the 2 professional catering business start-up guides I mentioned earlier on this webpage:

These 2 guides can save you a lot of time, money, and costly mistakes along the way. I recommend Starting a Catering Business more than Catering Business Plan Kit, because it's more complete and professional.

Home Catering Business Start-Up Guides

How Can They Help You

Either of the 2 start-up guides I wrote about can help you with starting your own business. Here's how:

  1. How to get repeat clients and new clients

  2. How to make each event you cater to a wild success

  3. How to organize your time

  4. How to advertise yourself

  5. How to close deals

  6. How to deal with clients

  7. How to hire people

  8. How to get huge corporate clients

  9. How to meet the business requirements of a catering service

  10. How to find affordable equipment

  11. How to cater to different ethnic groups

  12. How to become more than just a caterer and turn into a complete event organizer

This is a lot of things to do. And there are a lot of potential pitfalls.

I'm not trying to scare you or anything, since you can do this perfectly. All I'm saying is that by using a catering start-up guide, you can rest assured that you got all the bases covered.

By using a guide, you'll be able to do things much faster and build your business in the right way from the foundations upwards.

Here are the 2 guides:

  1. Starting a Catering Business

  2. Catering Business Plan Kit

How Much Money Can You Make From Your Catering Business

This is a question which doesn't have one answer. This really depends on YOU!

If you work hard, cook well, throw great events, and play your cards right, you can make an enormous amount of money. But this will take some time to get to.

You need to do things right in the beginning and things will be easier later on.

Grants To Start A Catering Service

A lot of you readers are interested in using Grant Money to open a catering service and for good reason because what's better than to use some of the governments money to get back some money for yourself, right?

A lot of people think that the only help they can get from the government is in the form of government loans, but this isn't true. You can get grants which you Don't need to repay in order to start your business.

Getting grants to start a business is entirely possible, the problem is that it's hard to find the right grant for you with all the bureaucracy and red tape involved. Another problem is that, like you, there are a lot of people hungry for grant cash, so you need to be able to stand out out of the crowd of applicants. Remember, grants can be in the thousands of dollars, so this is important.

If you don't know how to go about finding suitable grants and applying to them check out these 2 resources:

  1. Uncle Sam's Money Grant Resource

  2. Grant Sources

Both of these 2 resources can give you the inside peek into the world of grants and how to apply to them. If you're strung out for cash and want to have the government chip in the startup cost of your catering service or even cover the entire expense, then these 2 resources will sure come in handy.

I don't think that you need both of them as they cover much of the same material, but having 1 one them can save you a lot of money, time, frustration, and effort. They will also increase your chances of getting grant money.

Here are the resources again (just click one of the 2 links):

  1. Uncle Sam's Money Grant Resource

  2. Grant Sources

If I prepare the food on the premises of a private home hosting the function do I still need a permit? Do I HAVE to have a permanent kitchen as a business address?

    Hi Kimberly,
Now you need to start building your network of friends and recommendors. Any friend which has an event should come to you for catering so that people start hearing about you. Cast your net wide and you will catch more fish.
