How to begin
Your First Steps In Linux
First off, if you are confused as to what linux or ubuntu is, you should not install it on your computer. Go to this link to make sure ubuntu is what you think and is what you want: http://www.ubuntu.com/products/whatisubuntu ...Now that that is over. It is time to get started.
INSTALLING UBUNTU
-Make SURE that you have backed up any of the files or pictures that you want to save from your previous Operating system.
- Download the ubuntu live cd from http://www.ubuntu.com/ ....OR Order a cd to be delivered to you.
-The file you download will be called an ".iso" file, you can burn that file to a cd-r or cd-rw or dvd-r or dvd-rw with this program http://www.download.com/Active-ISO-Burner/3000-2646_4-10612384.html?tag=lst-0-1
- Once the .iso file has concluded burning, restart your computer.
- Boot into Ubuntu. In most cases, the Ubuntu Live CD will be detected upon booting up. Some users may have to press F8 as they boot to change the boot order in BIOS. To learn how to do this go here: http://dailycupoftech.com/installing-ubuntu-desktop-series/installing-ubuntu-part-2/
- Ok, so you are booted into the Ubuntu Enviroment! You may take a while and look around, or you can get right to business.
- When you are ready to install, click the install Icon on the desktop. The rest of the install process is explained well and you shouldn't have any problems with it. If you do have problems, check out this site, it should answer any questions: http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Feisty
- Enjoy the linux goodness!

- I think Ubuntu is overall a great distribution and most people should be able to install it without too much worry.
It should be noted that in the "Boot into Ubuntu" step, the button that needs to be pushed to get to the boot menu varies. F8 is what you press to get into Windows Safe Mode, so for some this might not be a little confusing.

- Maybe a little more detail on ISOs and how to burn them? Could avoid some CDs coasterized by burning the ISO as a file. Nice lens, lensrolled.
