Stauffer Mansion In Lancaster, PA

Stauffer Mansion has been turned into something of a museum, and the surrounding land is now Stauffer Park. This picture was taking from across the street, just to the side of the Boston Market on Route 501 (Lititz Pike).

The Stauffer Mansion Parking Lot

When you park at the Stauffer Mansion/Park, you still have to walk a bit to get to the actual mansion and carriage house. On the way is a sign to direct you. For some reason, I was intrigued instantly by the "pet cemetery" marker.

It's A Big House

This corner shot is taken from a grassy area near Route 501. However, this is technically park property, and only a few feet off the path.

If you look closely, my husband is standing on the corner of the porch. He stands at 5'8, and each floor in the main part of the building is easily twice his height.

The back of the house appears to be an add on, and is where the offices are kept. The floor height seems to be different as well. And if you pay attention, there's a squarish area between the older and newer parts of the building. I'm not sure what's in it, but it's much newer than either other portion of the mansion.

The Lancaster County Historical Society

This marker is placed next to the door to the office entrance. The Stauffer Mansion is apparently maintained by the Historical Society.

I just thought the emblem was pretty.

The Basement

Beware of stepping on unfamiliar basement doors, for they may bend and creak alarmingly!

This basement door is also near the office entrance, and it really did bend and creak.

Inside The Stauffer Mansion

We tried to take a series of photos through the windows, but the sun was at just the wrong angle, and this was the only photo that turned out half decent.

I really do like this one though, as the whole picture seems incredibly spooky, and the candles seem to be floating in thin air!

Out Back

Just as we were leaving, the sun was setting. This is a delightfully creepy view from the back of the mansion.

The Creepy Tree

My husband and I fell in love with this tree. Not only did it look really cool, but every time we went near it, we heard "Caw! Caw!". Every time.

The Pet Cemetery

While I took many pictures of the pet cemetery, not many turned out well since it's entirely fenced in with wrought iron.

However, I took a few pictures of the grave markers. This one really struck me, because while they certainly seemed to love their pets, this gravestone is for a set of kittens that they found dead elsewhere on their property. I was surprised how much I felt that I learned about the family by these markers.

More Information

We were unable to find much out about the family, or even the house itself. The office hours are Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm... and we work! We've been unsuccessful finding anything online either. If we're able to dig more up, it'll be added here.
