How To Become An Effective Stay At Home Business Mom

First, please allow me to share with you my story. I was a successful Account Manager for one of the largest lender bank in the U.S. The stability and income that the job security provided me was indeed very attractive and satisfying, at least that is what I thought during my tenure in there. In my third year with the company, God blessed me with a husband and a child in my first year of marriage. Wow! So many changes I was coping with, that even my manager back then could not believe I was still highly performing at my job. Not because she doubted my potential, but because I had gone through so many changes all within the same year. I was able to carry out my pregnancy the whole 9 months without any complications, praise God! And, I did it in the midst of highly stressful situations and very complicated times for the mortgage industry.

On May 15, 2007, I accomplished one of the toughest, yet pleasant jobs a woman can go through, the birth of my first child. Her name is Abygail Isabella Arias, by the time I started writing this lens she was 15 months old and a young walker! I took 2 months off for my maternity leave. Once this time was over, I had to put myself together. Obviously, I had to go shopping for clothing, since I was about 3 sizes over. And, to tell you the truth, I was actually looking forward to see my teammates and just being in contact with my customers and clients in general. I did perform well under pressure or stressful situations, so the fast pace environment was okay for me.

Little did I know is that when the big day arrived, I was experiencing some kind of butterflies (nausea) in my stomach and my eyes got watery as I kissed my baby goodbye and closed the front door!! Was this a painful situation? Yes! I would pray in the car, and would ask God to give me strength and help me to get through the day every single day afterwards. Of course, everyone welcomed me back at work; the ambiance was still the same, there were about 30 women in the office looking stressful, tired, miserable, and unhappy, and here I was with a well rested face, showing zero stress and zero wrinkles on my face, why? Well, because I had 2 whole months off; even the receptionist made a joke that my pretty happy face was going to change by the end of the week due to work. I did ignore her comment as my strength comes from Jesus.

Or so I thought! The truth is that both my career and my character were about to be tested and challenged since I was informed by my boss at that time, that my job position has been changed. I had been reassigned to co-lead one of the newest, highly stressful, demanding teams in the office. With no other option, but to accept the new position, I went to my desk and diligently transferred my stuffs to my new location. And.....this is where it all started. I was able to carry out my new title for about 9 months and that's it!!! I made a decision to leave the company, the workplace, the 9 to 6 job, and unite to my husband's vision of working from home our own internet business, while at the same time to take care of our precious daughter and manage my household. Some of you might be asking, what about finding another job or company? What for? If it was going to be the same thing; and what about "my Jesus", well God has given us wisdom and understanding, and I knew that it was time for me to move on as I have accomplished my purpose in that job already.

So I took the biggest STEP OF FAITH I've ever taken before: I became a Stay Home Business Mom and Wife. In the next paragraphs, I will share with you some tips that have helped me to become effective and efficient in my business.

As I mentioned earlier, if you don't have a vision, then you are truly going to waste your time and money in owning a home business. It is imperative that you sit down and think clearly straight on what your vision is and get it in writing (put together a business plan/strategic plan) so that you are clear on your goals and objectives about what do you want to accomplish and even achieve with your home business.

I was struggling at first on working the business as I didn't have a clear idea on why we were doing what we are doing. I mean, yes, we're doing it to help others become successful in their businesses, and for us to obtain time and financial freedom, but, there has to be more than that. So then it's when I realized that all this time I actually have been talking about my vision, but I was not completely understanding it, my vision (and my husband's as well) is for us as a couple and family to travel around the world and the U.S. and be a blessing to others financially and spiritually. Wow! When the veil fell, and I saw the big picture clearly then I was working with purpose and more focus. My head stopped spinning and my thoughts were more organized, so I can think clearly and with more creativity now!

One important thing to mention is that my husband and I have one vision regarding our finances, so, what I'm saying is we are not in a Di-Vision of each having our own financial vision, and that truly make a difference in creating the results we want.

You probably heard before the importance of setting up your priorities straight, and as far as my own priorities, it took me awhile to figure them out. Now I know what they are, and I want to share them with you: 1. God, 2. My Husband, 3. My Daughter, 4. My Family, 5. Our Business, 6. My Ministry (personal calling or purpose in life), and last but not least, 7. Community (Church, neighborhood, city, country, world, internet community).

I know it is easier to write those priorities above than to follow them to a tee. Before I was able to clearly understand the value of setting up my priorities straight, I used to be the typical Miss Perfectionist, in regards to cleaning, organizing, putting things together, following through, etc. But, when I started to see that all my strength and time was going nowhere as I was not producing the results we needed to produce in our business and in my life, then I STOP being Miss Perfectionist. I rearrange my priorities, and came up with those six priorities above. It helped me a lot to have that cleared, and now I am able to do my best to take care of each and every one of those priorities. I no longer get obsessed when the floor has not been swept or my email account has not been cleaned. And, I can see how my health, self esteem, and business productivity have improved since I organized my day in the order of my priorities.
