Steampunk - Is that raygun loaded?
Irecently put a name to something which had fascinated me for a long time and that name was no less fascinating or amazing ...Steampunk. I was first introduced to Steampunk through Japanese animation films never realizing that there was a whole Steampunk movement and subculture growing the world over.
What is Steampunk? That in itself is a hard question to answer as Steampunk is different things to different people. Steampunk is certainly an eclectic world, a world stuck in the Victorian era but with incredible technology that is both mind boggling and pretty darn fun. Imagine a Jules Vernian world with giant steam-powered robots, clockwork machines, rayguns and other incredible gizmos. Technology aside I think that what attracts people most to Steampunk is the romance of a bygone time, the fashion and "savoir vivre" of the Victorian era.
The Steampunk world is a steam-powered world that in many ways puts our real world to shame. This lens is here to pay tribute to the genre.

Steampunks, Who Are They?
Steampunk isn't all about Victorian outfits, gears, rivets and steam-powered mechanical marvels as there are many variants to the Steampunk genre. Some people lean more towards the Gothic and macabre while others fancy themselves vampires (I guess you need something to shoot those steam-powered rifles at). Steampunks have been coined as Neo-Victorians, a subculture which is the amalgamation of Victorian aesthetic principles yet with modern sensibilities and technologies (albeit steam-powered technologies). For many Steampunk is a way of life.
You'll also find offshoots of Steampunk such Dieselpunk and Clockpunk but thats a different Lens altogether.

Steampunk Fashion
Women's Steampunk fashion tends to gravitate towards the classical Lolita look with emphasis on the baroque to give it a bit more of a sophisticated stylish look. Corsets, corsets and more corsets! Men on the other hand tend to stick to the gentleman aristocrat or adventurer look. Of course, there's always exceptions and thats what's great about it...there are no rules and everyone creates their own Steampunk personae.
