Stephen King
Who is Stephen King?
Stephen Edwin King (born September 21, 1947) is an American author, screenwriter, musician, columnist, actor, film producer and director.
Having sold over 350 million copies of his books, King is best known for his work in horror fiction, in which he demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the genre's history. He has also written science fiction, fantasy, short-fiction, non-fiction, screenplays, teleplays and stageplays. Many of his stories have been adapted for other media, including movies, television series and comic books. King has written a number of books using the pen name Richard Bachman...
Stephen King's The Dark Tower
The Dark Tower - an epic series by Stephen King

The Dark Tower is a series of seven books written by American author Stephen King between 1970 and 2004. The series incorporates themes from multiple genres, including fantasy fiction, science fantasy, horror and western elements. They describe a gunslinger's quest toward a tower whose nature the books call both physical and metaphorical. King has described the series as his magnum opus; besides the seven novels that compose the series proper, many of his other books relate to the story, introducing concepts and characters that come into play as the series progresses.

My Opinion on Stephen King's The Dark Tower
Some people will find the later books a bit different as the story takes a twist that allows King to document some of his own life in the book. Some will like, others will not. Make up your own mind.
If you enjoy Stephen King you must read this series, however if you are new to King you may want to start on some of his other books first.

The Stand
A fantastic book which is really absorbing. Goes through the events following an outbreak of Super Flu. There are significant references to this book from the Dark Tower series, and it is well worth reading The Stand before you read Dark Tower.Stephen King - The Stand
Amazon.co.uk Review
In 1978, science fiction writer Spider Robinson wrote a scathing review of The Stand in which he exhorted his readers to grab strangers in bookshops and beg them not to buy it.
The Stand is like that. You either love it or hate it, but you can't ignore it. Stephen King's most popular book, according to polls of his fans, is an end-of-the-world scenario: a rapidly mutating flu virus is accidentally released from a U.S. military facility and wipes out 99 and 44/100 percent of the world's population, thus setting the stage for an apocalyptic confrontation between Good and Evil.
"I love to burn things up," King says. "It's the werewolf in me, I guess.... The Stand was particularly fulfilling, because there I got a chance to scrub the whole human race, and man, it was fun! ... Much of the compulsive, driven feeling I had while I worked on The Stand came from the vicarious thrill of imagining an entire entrenched social order destroyed in one stroke."
There is much to admire in The Stand: the vivid thumbnail sketches with which King populates a whole landscape with dozens of believable characters; the deep sense of nostalgia for things left behind; the way it subverts our sense of reality by showing us a world we find familiar, then flipping it over to reveal the darkness underneath. Anyone who wants to know, or claims to know, the heart of the American experience needs to read this book. --Fiona Webster

Carrie
Stephen King's first published novel.

Carrie is American author Stephen King's first published novel, released in 1974. It revolves around the titular character Carrie, a shy high-school girl, who uses her newly discovered telekinetic powers to exact revenge on those who tease her. King has commented that he finds the work to be "raw" and "with a surprising power to hurt and horrify". It is one of the most frequently banned books in United States schools and the film version was banned in Finland. Much of the book is written in an epistolary structure, through newspaper clippings, magazine articles, letters, and excerpts from book...

'Salem's Lot
Published by Stephen King in 1975

'''Salem's Lot''' is a 1975 horror novel written by Stephen King, and was the authors second published novel. The title King originally chose for his book was Second Coming, but he later decided on Jerusalems Lot. The publishers, Doubleday, shortened it to the current title, thinking the authors choice sounded too religious.
The novel has been adapted into a television mini-series twice, first in 1979 and years later in 2004. The novel was also adapted by the BBC as a seven part radio play in 1995.

The Shining
Published by Stephen King 1977

The Shining (1977) is a horror novel by American author Stephen King. The title was inspired by the John Lennon song "Instant Karma!", which contained the line "We all shine on?". King had originally wanted to call the book "The Shiner", but changed it when he discovered that "shiner" was derogatory slang for blacks. It was King's third published novel, and first hardback bestseller, and the success of the book firmly established King as a preeminent author in the horror genre.
A film based upon the book, The Shining directed by Stanley Kub...

I didn't get into the Dark Tower Series, I think mostly because of a lack of time through college. My personal favorite is Bag of Bones. I have actually purchased this bood three different times. Friends ask to borrow it and I don't get it back...lol. So, I am keeping this copy! I am a big Stephen King fan also. Thanks for your nice comment on my intro in the "New" Forum.
