Steve Reeves The Greatest

actor, bodybuilder, fitness advisor and author.

Born in Glasgow, Montana, Steve Reeves moved to California at the age of 10 with his mother Goldie, after his father Lester Dell Reeves died in a farming accident. Reeves developed an interest in bodybuilding while in high school and trained at Ed Yarick's gym in Oakland. By the time he was 17 he had developed a Herculean build, long before the rise in general interest in bodybuilding. After graduating from high school, he entered the Army during the latter part of World War II, and served in the Pacific.

Steve Reeves a Simple Philosophy

Unlike many of the famous bodybuilders, Steve Reeve was never seen as a Gym Rat, Steve had a train hard and then forget it philosophy. Steve Reeves did not believe you should lift weights just for the sake of weights, you needed a goal for why you were lifting. From day to day after working to obtain a goal, Steve Reeves believed you should return to life as a normal person that just happened to have muscle.

It has been over 50 years since Steve Reeves competed in Bodybuilding Competitions and yet to this day Steve Reeves is held up as the perfect body, the body to work toward emulating. It was a sad day for all of us that looked up to Steve Reeves or had the pleasure of meeting this icon of Bodybuilding, when we heard on May 1st, 2000, that Steve Reeves had passed away. Like the Greek Gods, Steve Reeves will live on, for he shall be remembered.

Steve Reeves meets Hollywood

Steve Reeves had classic good looks and the physical attributes of the Greek Statues, so was it any wonder that those good looks and physique would be introduced into Hollywood movies? All of us were able to enjoy and admire Steve Reeves in the Italian movies about Hercules, during the 50's and 60's.

Steve Reeves movies inspired hundreds, perhaps thousands of young people around the world to get to the gym. Among those young me was a kid by the name of Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Steve Reeves paved the way for the money, fame, and opportunities that current bodybuilders now take advantage of. Definitely an impressive man.
