How do you measure yourself successful?
Is it by your career? Your house? Your car? Your bank account? Maybe your friends?
Really? Is that what you think success is?
To the world the answer to this question is YES. To the world, material possessions and worldly items determine a mans success.
But what does success mean to God?
Obeying the word. That's success.
Witnessing to others every possible opportunity. That's success.
Fellowshipping with others. That's success.
Striving to be more like Christ. That's success.
Are you in the world or of the world?
Matthew 6:19-21 says,
"Do not gather and heap up and store up for yourselves treasures on earth where moth and rust and worm consume and destroy, and where thieves break through and steal. But gather and heap up and store for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust nor worm consume and destroy, and where thieves do not break through and steal; For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."
Jesus himself told us not to store it all up down here. Yet we do. We worry more about keeping up with the family next door, then witnessing to that family. We have to out do each other ALL THE TIME!!
I feel the Lord is saying enough is enough. Life is not a game of who can have the most toys when they die.
Life is about so much more. God created us to glorify Him. To fellowship with Him. So why aren't we?
Friends we have our eyes set on worldly possessions instead of focusing on Jesus. Our whole reason for being here and we somehow have forgotten about Him.
Proverbs 16:3 says,
"Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed."
Ok wouldn't the key point be to Commit ourselves to the LORD?? Why aren't we doing this?
We are however committed to making all the money we can.
To upgrading our cell phones and computers.
To being the "boss" at our jobs.
To driving the "pimped" out car.
To having the best clothes.
To having it all.
Even though we can't take it with us when we leave. Why then? What point does it really have?
The world will eventually fade away, but Heaven my friends is EVERLASTING!!!
Friends, if we would just commit ourselves to Him, then the success would follow. We would gain so much!!
A life with Him in it. A life living for Him, with Him.
Eternal life in heaven with our Lord is better then anything we could possibly have here on earth.
You know how I measure success?
By where I stand with the Lord.
I am not successful just because I am driving a Lexus or a Cadillac. I am not successful if I'm CEO of the company. I am not successful even if I am rubbing elbows with Bill Gates.
I AM successful if I am obeying the Lord. Being as close to Him as I can possibly get. Only striving to get closer.
If I am doing everything that the Word of God and the Holy Spirit tell me to do, then I am successful. My riches wait for me in heaven.
Yes God wants us to prosper. But He also wants us to put Him and His works FIRST.
Joshua 1:8 says,
"This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
See right there. God gives us a command. Meditate in it day and night. In what? The Word of God and His works. Then and only then will you truly prosper and have success.
Not after you make another dollar. Or buy that new car. Not after you gain anything here on earth.
Friends, you can be successful right now!! Put His work first and success will follow. Everything else sort of falls into place.
The things I have in my life, big and small, come from Him.
If I am doing everything that the Word of God and the Holy Spirit tell me to do, then I am successful. My riches wait for me in heaven.
Friends, lets be truly successful. Let's put the Lord first. Let's do the work that He has called us to do.
Then and only then will we be SUCCESSFUL!!
In Christ,
3 things you should know about Success?
My precious wife lost her Grandma and then her Grandpa had an auction. He sold everything. There was items we even wanted as memorabilia from the family that we had to purchase during the auction to keep. Everything they ever worked for there whole life was gone in an afternoon. He kept only a few of the basics to survive. A dresser, 1 chair, a single bed, his cloths etc. He then moved himself into a self efficient elderly home across the street from the grave site where her Grandma was buried. He lived there 2 years until he passed. It was so sad that what they both worked for there whole life meant absolutely nothing once she was gone. The only thing that meant anything to him his last two years were the memory's.
I know a person need money these days to survive but we don't need the most expensive cars, homes, cloths, furniture the biggest tv, etc.
We are working ourselves overtime just to have these things and taking time away watching our children crawl, walk, grow or missing them coming home from school. etc.
There is so much more to this life than buying the items in this life that we can't take with us.
