Summer in Morzine

The Passportes du Soleil gives Mountain Bikers of all ages and abilities access to over 350km of bike trails, spanning the border between France and Switzerland. During the last week of the ski season, you may have seen the gondola lifts losing their trademark ski racks, and getting fitted with bike racks. The lifts continue running through the summer months, meaning you never have to ride uphill (unless you want to!).

There are plenty of guides and tour operators, who will take you on planned excursions through the mountains and forests, affording you some of the best views of the area. Take the Route d'Avoriaz down the hill at the end of the day, and celebrate a successful trek with friends in one of the many bars and restaurants in Morzine centre.

Paragliders launch themselves from the clifftops between Morzine and Avoriaz throughout the year, but Summer is a great time to experience this exhilirating sport. There are 3 Paragliding schools in Morzine, and you can easily hire an experienced glider to take you high above the valley and safely down to earth i the town below. Your first flight starts at around 60 Euro's, and you'll soar at over 500ft from the ground below. Flights vary in duration, dependant on conditions and starting point, but typically you'll be in the air for 15-20 minutes.

As the winter snow melts and makes it's way down the valley, the Alpine rivers around Morzine form some exciting rapids, and when conditions subside from their Category 6 & 7 status, the White Water Rafting companies move in! The River Dranse has many great areas to ride, from late May, you'll get category 3 to 4 rapids ... more than enough to get the heart racing! A.N. Rafting, a short drive from Morzine, is just one company that provides professional rafting excursions for around 40 Euro's. In addition, there are many lakes and calmer rivers, where you can hire kayaks and canoes for a far-more refined and relaxed experience.

There really are so many things to do in and around Morzine, that you need never leave during your holiday. There are outdoor heated Swimming Pools in both Morzine and Avoriaz, where you'll also find beach Volleyball courts, outdoor Table Tennis, Archery and Tennis courts aplenty. There's a great Golf course on the outskirts of Avoriaz, and on the lower slopes of the Pleney in Morzine town, you'll find the fantastic Summer Luge ... a concrete bobsled run for single-seater sleds. This really is a must do!
