Summer Solstice
First I'd like to credit RichardsonPilot for the stunning Stonehenge photo.
The Summer Solstice has been celebrated for centuries but in recent years it's once again gaining a lot of interest and many more people are beginning to note the date and celebrate.
What is the Summer Solstice? It's the time of the year when the sun is at it's zenith and we reach the longest day of the year.
Light overcomes darkness on the Summer Solstice and it's therefore recognised as a day of power.
The sun enters the nurturing sign of Cancer and we begin to reap the harvest. It's a time to give thanks.
You don't have to be a Druid to celebrate the Solstice but we'd all do well to remember the Druid Vow - "We swear by peace and love to stand ... ",
This is a time to honour own own internal life energy so don't let the Summer Solstice pass you by - celebrate!

St John the Baptists Day
Well the Summer Solstice 2008 went fantastic in our home and we enjoyed all the celebrations but it's not over yet.....
We live in Spain and here we also celebrate St John the Baptists day on the 24th June. Just as Christmas is a few days after the winter solstice, St John's is a few days after the summer solstice.
We'll be visiting the beach Tuesday evening and walking into the sea. It's a tradition that is one of the oldest feasts, to honour a saint.
Let the celebrations continue......

Protection and Security
The Summer Solstice occurs during the Oak Moon which is the moon of strength and security. The Oak moon is full on 18th June 2008 and celebrations, in my home, will start on this date. The mighty Oak tree lives for hundreds of years and its wood is very strong so it symbolises wisdom, strength and security. Oak was the most sacred tree to the Druids.
The earth is at its most pregnant and ancient rituals were performed to ensure a bountiful harvest would arrive. We're beginning to move from a waxing year to a waning year.
This time of year is also a time for love so if you haven't found your 'special' someone yet, now is a likely time so keep your eyes wide open. Or you could just nip over to Midsummers Eve. (click the banner) They obviously know a lot about love after choosing such an approprirate name.
Thought is the most powerful element we have and, during the time of the Oak Moon and Summer Solstice, this is the time to think and visualize powerful, positive thoughts.

A Time for Positive Thoughts and Letting Go of The Past
We really should take the time to focus our thoughts and release any negativity. Just because we made a mistake once, doesn't mean it will be repeated - learn from it and turn it into something positive. The Summer Solstice is a time to think and visualize a positive, prosperous future.
Many people have read, or seen, The Secret and other Law of Attraction material and the information is great and I'm glad it's now reaching a wider audience. I've been using these natural laws for many years but I also work with other natural laws such as the waxing and waning moon and year. Nature works through the seasons in a continuous cycle and life becomes much easier if you work with the natural flow.

Sunrise and Sunset Posters
I believe I've found the best place online to shop for my posters because I don't just have sunsets and sunrise, I have posters for numerous topics and it's impossible to display them all at once.
The prices are fantastic so I can indulge my love of inspirational images and just change the posters around whenever I feel the need.
I've just done a quick search using the term 'sunrise' and got 11 pages of results and there are approximately 9 posters per page!
A Solstice Feast
It's time to get outdoors so make up a fantastic picnic feast and feel the gentle summer breeze and stop to think how it makes you feel.Invite your friends and family and ask everyone to bring a plate of food to contribute to the feast. Cover the tables with red cloths (to honour the sun) or sit on red blankets. Scatter red rose petals between the plates. Add pots, or vases, of yellow, orange or red flowers.
Light a BBQ - flames also honour the sun.
This is a time to celebrate and create as many positive vibes as possible. It's all about having fun!
Try to incorporate foods of the summer and lots of red, yellow and orange coloured food. Baked tomatoes, cheeses in shades of yellow and orange, red and yellow peppers, strawberries, etc... (you get the idea)
Berry wines, rather than grape based, are an excellent summer drink. Here in Spain I drink Tinto in the evenings - a long, cool, fruity red wine with lemonade, ice and slices of orange and lemon.
How about some wine cheese spread! It's delicious and you simply have to give it a try. Your guests will all rave about it at future parties and they'll all want to know where you got it from - I'll share my secret with you but, sshh... don't let your guests in on it. Cheese Gifts
Make sure you play uplifting music to help the positive vibes flow. Yes, this picnic is turning into a party and you should try to make it last all night so you can watch the sunrise.
The Summer Solstice is a night of magic so be sure to invite the faeries - they love a good party! Think of Shakespear's, Midsummer Night's Dream.
Think of all the June weddings and the old children's nursery rhyme
.....Marry in June when roses grow
And happiness you'll always know...
Plant a tree or a plant and see it as your symbol of strength. Nurture it and watch is grow and flourish and allow yourself to grow and flourish with it. Get yourself in tune with nature and her natural rhythms. Recognise the earth and the bounty it gives us and give something back. It can be something simple such as caring for your new plant or feeding the birds regularly. Just make sure that you know why you're watering your plant or feeding the birds and send that positive thought of giving, whilst you do it.
Celebrate the Summer Solstice and have as much fun as you possibly can.

More Solstice Rituals
So what else can you do to honour the Summer Solstice?Bathe with some Oak leaves - seriously! Float the leaves in your bath water, bathe by candlelight, close your eyes and feel the strength and power of the mighty Oak. Visualize a strong protective force surrounding you and smell the scent of success.
If you don't fancy bathing in Oak leaves then try Lavender or Rose Petals. Get creative and make your own scented soaps or bath fizzes with Lavender or Rose Petal scent and flowers.

Solstice Colours and Scents
The ideal colours to wear are white or earth colours but remember earth colours can be all shades of browns and even red. These are the colours of positivity and strength. Some may think that bright colours represent positive energies but really they only symbolise passing dazzle and not solid positive energies.
Browns are solid and grounding and come in all shades so choose one that appeals to you. Add some red accessories and you'll soon feel the benefits of being positive and grounded.
Positive, optimistic scents are also woody aromas that also make us feel secure. It makes sense really, if we feel grounded, secure and strong then we're bound to feel more positive about everything.
Try using Pine, Cypress, Rosewood and, for inspiration, add some Frankincense or Sandalwood. Geranium is another of my favourites and I often dilute a few drops of the essential oil, in sweet almond carrier oil, and put on my pulse points. It will make you feel positive, confident and focused.
