Lets talk about this years movies. Which will be bombs or blockbusters?

Update July 1st. Half way through the summer, Transformer Revenge of the fallen appears to be the biggest hit. I read a couple of days ago that it could be the worst rating $400 Million movie ever. I watched it and thought it delivered everything you should expect from a blockbuster Angels and Demons was very well done - much better than the Di Vinci code in my opinon.

If you missed any of big, blockbuster summer movies, now is a great time to catch-up.  You can watch most of them all via amazon video on demand.

Summer 2009 Box Office Results

Robots, princes, Old people, and dinos ruled!

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was the top summer 2009 movie hauling in over $400 million domestically, and $800 million overall. Transformers is followed by Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince with $297.6 million and a staggering $917 million overall. This summer two animated films were in the top 5, Ice Age and Up from Pixar.

Top Five Summer 2009 Movies based on domestic revenue are as follows:

  • Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - $400.7
  • Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince - $297.6
  • Up - $290.9
  • Star Trek - $257.2
  • Ice Age: The Dawn of the Dinosaurs - $194.3


Surprisingly the most profitable movie in the lot was Ice Age. It grossed $808.1M and only cost about $90M to produce. A 9x profit for the film makers and studio! I'm willing to bet the family farm that this will not be the last in the Ice Age franchise.
