Start With The Naked Truth

Get Comfortable In Your Own Skin

The first thing you need to do is find a good full-length mirror. Stand in front of it and take a good long look at yourself.

What do you see? I'm not talking about the makeup or the hairstyle, or even the features. I mean the total package.

Do you find the image you're looking at attractive? Enticing? Approachable? Why or why not?

It's okay if you're not entirely pleased with your image (as reflected to you and as perceived by others) for now. But it is important that you determine what it is about what you see that you don't like so you'll know what you will need to work on.

Consider this: maybe it's not the raw material you find unattractive, but the presentation. Have you ever noticed how some neighbors' lawns are always neat and well-manicured while some others are always overgrown and strewn with trash. The way those lawns look tell you a lot about the way the homeowners feel about their surroundings. The lawns that always look nice look that way because they are being cared for by their owners, while the lawns that are always shabby are obviously not being taken care of.

The same logic applies to your personal appearance. If you care about yourself, you take care of yourself ... and it shows. Conversely, if you don't take care of yourself, you probably don't make a point of making sure you always look your best. What that tells others is you don't think very highly of yourself.

Sure, all of us are guilty of slumming sometimes. But if looking trashed is your normal MO, you will be perceived by others as someone who doesn't care about herself. Others will reason that if you don't even care about yourself why should anyone else bother to care about you.

You may not even be conscious that your appearance is sending negative messages. As far as you are concerned, you may be just being comfortable. But perception is reality.

It doesn't matter that that's not the message you intend to send. What matters is people will believe that it is. So make sure your appearance says what you want it to say about you.

Okay, now back to the mirror. Get a pen and a piece of paper and write down what you do and do not like about what you see. Make sure you either sit or stand in front of the mirror for at least another 15 minutes before you begin writing. Really take the time to study yourself as others do and try to see yourself the way others see you.

When you're done listing your likes and dislikes, put the paper away for just a minute and return to the mirror.

Now take your clothes off. All of your clothes--every single item. It's okay if you're a little uncomfortable at first. Most women are not at all comfortable with their bodies, especially their unclothed bodies.

Study your reflection. Check out your frontal and back views and both side profiles.

Now get your paper and pen again and write down the rest of your likes and dislikes. Once you're done--and I'm assuming you have some privacy--don't put your clothes back on immediately.

Walk around the house. Do your exercises. Water your plants. Watch television. Have a sandwich. Do anything that you would normally be doing while wearing clothing.

I'm not trying to transform you into a nudist here. The point is for you to become comfortable with yourself. I want you to get so comfortable with yourself that you could swap family recipes with your grandmother (you probably want to do this over the phone unless you have a VERY progressive grandmother) without wearing so much as a stitch.

Now go back to the mirror. Assuming your home is kept at a comfortable temperature and your friends haven't jumped from behind the sofa yelling "Surprise!", you should be a lot more comfortable with yourself in the buff. This is great news, because comfort with oneself is a sure sign of self-acceptance.

At this point you can put your clothes back on--if you want to. Now we can talk about the areas that need improvement.

Let's start at the top. Is your hair healthy and free of frizz and split ends? Is your mane lustrous and shiny? Is it your crowning glory? Do you like your hair color? How about the cut? Is it flattering? Does it reflect your personal style?

Next let's take a look at your eyes. Are your brows neatly shaped? Do you wear eyeglasses? If so, do they fit properly? Do they flatter your face? Do you have bags or dark circles underneath your eyes?

Do you take good care of your skin? Is your complexion even and blemish free? Is your skin smooth and soft to the touch?

Do you wear makeup? Is it applied properly? Does it enhance your features?

How's your posture? Did you know that practicing proper posture can instantly make you look five pounds slimmer?

What are your best features? What do you do to draw attention to them?

What features are you least pleased with? What are you doing to deflect attention away from them?

How's your shape shaping up? Are your shoulder's narrow? Does your tummy protrude? Are your legs chunky?

In the greater scheme of things, it really doesn't matter whether you're a natural born knockout. I'm not contradicting my previous statement that appearances count. There is a big difference between not caring about your looks and accepting that you're not perfect.

There is nothing more attractive than a confident, self-assured woman. No amount of physical alterations, whether chemical or surgical, can substitute for the gift of knowing who you are and that you deserve the very best. Looking good is the result of accentuation, not alteration. Learn to take what you have and make what you need.

Make Yourself A Top Priority

Taking Care of You Should Be At the Top of Your To-do List

There is no better time than the present to for you to take a full-fledged inventory of your life. You also need to do a thorough, holistic and comprehensive self-evaluation of your physical, mental, emotional, cognitive, psychological and spiritual well-being.

This is the ideal time for you to assess where you all in all of these domains, determine where you'd like to be, develop goals and objectives for getting to that point, create and implement and action plan to help you achieve those ends and monitor your progress on an ongoing basis.

Go ahead...give yourself permission to be a little selfish. Use this period solitude to build a relationship with yourself. Get to know YOU! Take this opportunity to learn things you didn't know about yourself. Be amazed by what you can do. Marvel at the changes that have taken place in your life that you hadn't even noticed. Reconnect with the wonderful creation you are on an intimate level.

Make an appointment with your physician. Have everything checked out and get a clean bill of health.

Do you eat right? If you know you need to do better in this department, see a nutritionist. Obtain and stick to a healthy eating plan. If you cannot afford to invest in a nutritional consultation at this time, follow this advice: Eat a well-balanced diet consisting of complex carbohydrates like baked potatoes with the skin on, whole grain breads, cereals and pasta; plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables; low fat dairy products, lean proteins and healthy fats live olive oil and almonds. Do not add salt foods, and avoid foods that contain large amounts of sodium.

Do some research and find out which dietary supplements will benefit you. Purchase them and take them regularly. Be sure to consult your physician before implementing changes in your diet. Don't forget to ask how foods and supplements you are considering consuming might affect any specific health conditions you might have or medications you are taking.

Make sure you are properly hydrated. Drink plenty of pure, unflavored water every day. Avoid beverages that contain sugar, sugar substitutes and caffeine.

See your dentist. Get your teeth cleaned and checked at least twice per year. Brush and floss at least three times per day, and use a tongue scraper to remove odor-causing debris.

Does your skin look its best? If not, make an appointment with a dermatologist. Experiment with cleaning and moisturizing products until you find the ones that work best for you.

Get some exercise every day. It's not necessary to do anything excessively strenuous or time-consuming. All you need to do is stretch for 10 minutes, take a brisk walk or jump in the pool for an exhilarating swim. The importing thing is that you get moving!

Pray and give thanks daily. Consider visiting a natural health practitioner. Take in a yoga class. Read a good book. Surround yourself with positive people, images and messages. Be kind to yourself and others. Bring your life into a state of blissful equilibrium.

Take good care of yourself, and be good to yourself...you DESERVE it!

Make Sure Your Appearance Communicates The Message You Intend

Taking Stock of Yourself

Are you ready for an honest evaluation of your personal appearance? If so, be prepared to undergo the scrutiny of your toughest critic: YOU.

When you're ready, take out a pad (legal size works well) and pen and write down questions that follow.

Do you walk with confidence and panache? Do you hold your head high and look others straight in the eye when you meet them? Do you have a ready smile, a warm persona and a firm handshake?

Do the clothes you wear reflect your style, values, priorities and personality? Do you wear quality clothing, shoes and accessories?

Now that you've written down the questions, the moment of truth has arrived. Go ahead and answer them. Take your time. Think carefully about the questions and respond with thorough, detailed and honest answers.

Does your appearance represent you the way you want and deserve to be represented? Did you learn some things about yourself that you previously did not know? I'm willing to bet that you did.

In the greater scheme of things, it really doesn't matter whether you're a natural born knockout, or if you need a little cosmetic help in order to put your best face forward.

The fact of the matter is your appearance says a lot about you. Think about the impression you want to make. Others view your appearance as a representation and reflection of whom and what you are as a person. Right or wrong, fair or unfair...this is reality.

Looks aren't (and shouldn't be) everything, but the truth of the matter is appearances do count. The bottom line is there is a big difference between not caring about your looks and accepting that while you're not perfect, you are pretty darn wonderful...and your appearance communicates that loudly and clearly.

Building A Strong Foundation

The Right Undergarments Are An Absolute Necessity

As a woman who was raised in the South, I wouldn't dream of ever leaving my house without wearing a full complement of undergarments. My mama would be mortified!

Good quality undergarments should make you look sleek, smooth, polished and well put together. They improve your posture and make you appear slimmer. They make you feel pretty, comfortable and confident.

It makes sense to invest in high quality undergarments that look and feel wonderful, and function beautifully. So get rid of the panties that are so full of holes they resemble a wedge of Swiss cheese; throw out the bra with the broken strap that you've tying into a knot in order to keep it on your shoulder; and get ready to buy some pretty, sexy undies that will make you look GREAT!

Let's start with the basics. You will of course need plenty of panties, several good bras, at least one full- or half- slip, a pair of thermal underpants, a panty girdle and a regular girdle.

Once you've built a really good basic underwear wardrobe, you'll want to continue to add to it and include some specialty underthings like special function bras (strapless, backless, halter, etc.), matching sets of bras and panties, camisoles, waist cinchers, body stockings and one piece slimmers.

Make sure you buy plenty of your basic cotton BWPs (big white panties). These provide excellent ventilation, and are so comfortable when you're on your period. Comfortable, well-ventilated drawers are a must have for any woman who wants to look good and feel good.

Before you order bras or panties from an online store, be sure you know your correct sizes. Many women think they know what size they should be wearing, but they are W-R-O-N-G...and, believe me, it shows. Wearing the wrong size underwear is unattractive, uncomfortable and unnecessary. Check out the links below to find out the size bras and panties you should be wearing.

Make A Bold Fashion Statment With Smoking Hot Hosiery

Hosiery is a must-have accessory for every style diva. Sporting great hosiery is an easy way to show off your style while adding zing to your wardrobe.

Stock up on plenty of plain Jane pantyhose in flesh color. Keep extra pairs in your purse, glove box and office so you are never caught in a snag with a pair of ruined hose.

Trim and file your toenails weekly to avoid rips when you're slipping on delicate hosiery. If you have long nails (especially artificial ones), wear cotton gloves when you put on pantyhose to avoid tearing them.

Recently, some women have been wearing skirts and dresses without pantyhose...even in the dead of winter. This so-called "trend" is just plain stupid! It is ridiculous to wear skirts or dresses without hosiery during the winter, and women who do it look like freezing fools. If you love the look of bare legs and want to simulate it year round, opt for sheer hosiery in a color that matches your skin tone.

Buy plenty of dark opaque tights. When worn skirts, dresses and footwear in a matching color, tights make your legs look longer and give your outfit an instant style boost. To look taller and leaner, wear the same dark color from top to toe. This works especially well with dark colors (black, brown, charcoal gray, navy blue) and earth tones.

In summer, wear open-toed shoes with footless pantyhose. You'll achieve the precise look you want: covered legs and naked toes.

Unless you're a bride, a nurse or a fairy, when wearing pantyhose, opt for off-white, cream, ecru or light beige instead of white. Likewise, sheer, off-black pantyhose are softer and sexier than solid black. However, solid black tights look great paired with a black mini skirt.

Ultra sheer hosiery for works best for business, and dressy and formal occasions.

When wearing spectator pumps and other two-toned footwear, wear hosiery that matches the lighter shade of your shoes.

Collect hosiery in shades that are complementary to your wardrobe. Bold, eye-catching hosiery that enhances your style is worth the investment regardless of how much it costs. Hosiery can lend, panache, pizzazz and polish to your dresses and skirts. Buy hosiery in patterns that pop in patterns like herringbone, honeycomb and fishnet. Buy at least one pair with a sexy, shape-enhancing seam in the back.

Buy several pairs of thigh high stockings, including at least one pair you can wear with a garter belt. You will feel very sexy...and maybe even a little bit naughty when you wear them. If your thighs rub together, spread a small amount of petroleum jelly to both of your inner thighs to minimize friction.

Purchase at least one body stocking in black or a flesh tone. Bodystockings tend to resist runs better than regular hosiery. Control top pantyhose also more resistant to runs than regular pantyhose.

How To Figure Out What Size Pantyhose or Tights You Need

Hosiery manufacturers use several methods for determining sizing. Some use a combination of hip and waist measurements. If this is the case, measure your hips and waist using the same method used to determine panty size. Others use a combination of height and weight. As bizarre as it sounds, some even use shoe size--this is generally not a good plan.

Make sure you are armed with your height and weight statistics as well as your hip and waist measurements when you shop for hosiery. Use the sizing charts provided by the manufacturer and/or retailer. Avoid purchasing pantyhose or tights on the basis of your shoe size. However, it is perfectly fine to use shoe size as a factor for determining what size thigh-highs, knee-highs or socks you need.

Which hosiery do you think is smokin' hot?
