I wasn't bathed in radiation or approached by a cosmic being.  It's really quite an ordinary tale.  A few years ago I ordered a Limited Edition Action Figure from a well known comic book and toy retailer.  When the item arrived it was not packaged very well and the box for the figure had bends and crinkles.  The figure itself was ok but as anyone who collects will tell you, the packaging is almost as important as the figure itself.  Like many people who've had a bad retail experience, I said to myself "Self" you can do that better and that's what I try to do.  That's how I went from being a collector to being both a collector and webtailer of collectible action figures and related items.
